That sounds realy awful, my guess is one cylinder isn't working properly, maybe a misfire or a big end.
I think it's time you start using that car for what it's made for, use the power, redline it when hot and drive it hard.
If it breaks again, you want it truly broken.
(I know as a car lover, that's not good advice, but i seems you've given up on this one anyway.)
