Yes...you can register the battery later...but I wouldn't make it over a month. And if you change to a battery with different specs (like from a 90AH battery to a 95AH or 105AH battery, then you'll also need to code (recode) so that the battery's charging parameters for the IBS are correct. So "register" new battery if changing like-for-like...or "register" and "recode" if new battery has different specs.

Hard to make a recommendation because we can't tell what market you're in. Different countries have different brands...and their numbering system may be slightly different.

In the US market...a 49/H8 or 95R/H9 battery class size usually fits (you'll need to determine what brand you want...there's plenty of discussions across multiple BMW forms on this topic). But make sure you have enough room for the 95R/H9...it is longer and you may not have enough room in the battery compartment for it on some BMW models.
