Thanks for the info- I spoke with BimmerTech and they’re certain it’s not MMI, which is certainly not surprising. According to them:
“The only thing that MMI does is read specific car's CAN commands so it can execute some actions like displaying an RVC image when you put the car in reverse.
However, that doesn't interfere with the engine or transmission.”
They did also suggest doing the update, so I’ll give that a try but 🤷🏻‍♂️
