All for something that ought to be common sense, but our laws seem to lack it.
So then you have to weigh your options - if they are just in the garage / nowhere near you or your family and are just trying to steal your vehicle, do you go through any of the above hassle by confronting them? Honestly, I doubt I would.
If they were coming towards you, then yeah, if I'm going out, might as well be with a bang and try to take some with me, give the rest of my family a fighting chance to get out of there.

If you listen to the comments by the TPS officer he says many or most of them are armed. We live in a time where violence escalates often for no reason and quickly and you can't rely on the police to protect you. Lock yourself in your bedroom if you want but you might want something in there to protect you and your family. If someone comes into my house and are coming up the stairs they won't make it to the top of the stairs.
