As someone who has owned a few BMWs over the years, is it just me or does it feel like quality has been significantly downhill? I just got a 2026 X7 and while I'm washing the car a lot of parts just feel very plastic-y and loose, more so than in the past. For example the tow hook cover on the back bumper is pretty loose and so are some of the door handles. While this may be 'minor' it's still a $100k car. For reference I've previously had 2015 2series, 2018 x1, 2021 x3 (progression of starting a family) and having hand washed those cars myself the difference seems pretty stark.

On the X7, one issue I had is the door trim is loose, which seems like a part defect. At the dealer we walked around the showroom and every car had the same issue with the trim being loose and coming off from the car. I can't imagine it was an intentional design.

Definitely makes me think twice for future cars, the other question is what brand would be alternative.

I got into my car at the Trader Joe's parking lot a couple of hours ago. While I was messing with CarPlay(stupid thing lost connection again), I got very excited when I saw a new BMW Neue Klasse pulling into the space directly in front of me. The excitement lasted about 2 seconds until I recognized the Lincoln badge in front.

I drove around and the back of that Lincoln said MKS or MKZ-something. It looked very old.

maybe I need new glasses or stronger coffee... or both? :( I hate to think that BMW copied the design of some old Lincoln? Or worse, hired designers who were fired or retired from Lincoln?

G30 M550i or 540i? Real-world ownership experience after 2 years – let’s compare note

I’ve been daily driving a 2019 G30 M550i xDrive for the past 2+ years (now at 48k miles) and I’m seriously considering trading it in for a clean low-mile 540i.

The M550i is an absolute monster – that B58 with the tune I put on it (pure stage 1) is stupid fun, launches like a rocket, and the sound with the active exhaust is addictive. But fuel economy is brutal in the city (I’m averaging 14-16 mpg mixed), maintenance costs are starting to creep up (just did plugs + coils), and the insurance is noticeably higher.

The 540i seems like the smarter daily: better mpg (22-25 mixed from what I’ve seen), similar comfort, still plenty quick with a tune, and cheaper to run long-term.

Those of you who have owned both or switched from the 550i/540i – what’s your honest take?
- Did you regret going down to the 540i?
- Is the power difference really that noticeable day-to-day?
- Any major reliability differences I should know about on the G30 platform?

Also open to hearing from people who went the other way (540i → M550i).

Bonus: anyone running a JB4 or Bootmod3 on the B58 in a G30? How’s the drivability?

Looking forward to your experiences – this community always has the best real-world info.

Cheers!

Hello everyone,

I am hoping you can shed some light on this product I found on AliExpress.

When purchasing my X1, I was stupid enough not to check if it had electric folding mirrors. My wifes 2012 Mazda 2 has electric mirrors and I find it infuriating that mine doesn't have them. I just assumed that they came as standard on these.

Anyways, I've seen some threads on retrofitting the original ones, meaning buying original folding mirrors and have them swapped. But I find this to be quite expensive. €600 for the mirrors and someone to install them will easily reach close to 1k.

I saw these on AliExpress. Has anyone tried them before? I cannot find any information online or any reviews. I know they seem abit tricky to install but I reckon if I can save on the kit and convert the ones I have, I can spend that money on the installation and potentially save myself some $$.

Any help or info would be appreciated !

Thanks
