Launch control video on YouTube

Finally found some kind of demo on video. Has anyone ever tried this yet? I know we were talking about it on another forum recently but I didn't know there was this "checkered flag" icon on the gauges. I'm a little skeptical about doing a brake stand in such a new ride; but it appears it was designed for this?

I felt the same way the first time I tried it b/c it just didnt feel right but you have not experienced what these beasts can do until you've tried it.

Theres a bunch of posts on here on how to do it but I'll tell you how I do it:

M mode on(make sure your in all the power and sport settings)
Also have your T/C in either MDM or completely off

Find an open spot to do this now:
1.Slap it into manual and into first gear
2. Left foot depressing the brake
3. Floor gas with right foot all the way (past the little button)
4. When you see the checkered flag pop up and its says Launch Control then step off the brake and keep the gas completely floored

It'll automatically do the upshifts for you also when you do LC

Theres also a detailed step by step in your M handbook/manual that explains it pretty well

I tried it when we first got the car. Works great! It's awesome that the car handles all the shifting until you let go of the throttle.

Does the car lurch forward when you floor it? I read somewhere you really have to stand on the brakes to keep it from moving early. I'd like it better if it was like the M3 where you don't even have to hold the brake, and launch by releasing the shifter instead.

Yeah when your doing it the car can actually inch forward if your not on the brakes enough but its a pretty solid L/C i think. and yeah the m3s is actually a little easier to use but takes once you get used to it i'd say its just as good. not sure if you've tried it yet but i think it might be the best feature on the car, absolutely insane how it catapults this beast

I actually did it for my first time last night. I had three people in the car and I wasn't ready for how hard it would push against the brakes so it jumped forward when I first tried. But then I slammed the brakes floored it and saw the flag so I'm pretty sure I got it. The X5s smooth ride makes it less of a thrill compared to the M3 but it definitely pulls hard. Actually the M3 I did it in had an RPI exhaust that sounded like an F1 car, so maybe it just seemed faster from the sound. I'm sure the X was actually faster. Still amazes me how fast that fat car can move.

LOL. You guys crack me up. I did this with the car on my test drive and probably use launch control AT LEAST one time every time I drive it. I had probably around 100 passes at the track as well using the L/C everytime. These things are meant for it. Its like having a roller coaster ride sitting in your garage!
