2014 BMW X5 (F15) Drops Major Camouflage to Reveal Much

Have a look at the more exposed 2014 X5 (F15) prototype which has dropped some major camouflage to reveal much more of its styling and design.

FRONT FASCIA / LIGHTS

We can now clearly see the front bumper design, with its integrated air curtain vents. Also clearly visible now are the tail lights and headlight designs, which connect to the kidney grilles as we reported before and feature squared-off angel eye rings. The grilles are larger, wider, and have a thicker surround than those on the current X5. It retains the 7 slat design.

The hoodline has been moved to above the kidney grilles, but conform to the grilles and headlight shapes, instead of the higher (and more unattractive) hoodlines seen on newer BMW models such as the 3, 5, and 7 Series.

FENDER AIR VENT

For the first time, we can see a gap in the front fender camouflage for a front fender air vent, in the same position as the 'boomerang' vent seen on the 4 Series Coupe Concept. This may be an indication that a front fender vent will become a signature design on all (or most) future BMW models.

The F15 X5 may debut several new BMW technologies such as a pedestrian airbag and thea iDrive Touch Controller System.

The new X5 is expected to weigh less than the current X5 and ride on a modified version of the F10 5 series chassis. Expect both diesel and gasoline 6-cylinder and 8-cylinder engine options.

It should be introduced in late 2013 to early 2014 as a 2014 model year and continue being produced in BMW's Spartanburg, South Carolina plant.

The next X5 M model has also begun its testing - (first spy photos).

Time for a nice render... having a tough time deciding between the next gen X5 or a 4GC with x-drive... decisions decisions.

I think it is a bit too early to say anything definitive.

Correct, at least they have the proportions right. And I'm sure the next generation will look great. I believe even mini vans have a larger wheel tire setup then the X5. I know the Q's and MB SUV's do.

New door handles. Rear lights seem to be aggressive . Two LED strips far away from each other at top and touching/very close at the other end/bottom.

Still too early to say but I have no doubt that it will be good looking and aggressive.

Those tail lights are hideous! Reminds me of the ugly tail lights the Audi Q3 has, which looks like a Pokemon from behind, like this smiley: "XD"

You can't fully see them yet; hold off on judgment.

^ GLK has a recent facelift, but is still ugly!
ML is a complete new model, but the tail lights are horibble!
GL is a complete new model and looks good. It doesn't have a direct rival from BMW, but it's more expensive than ML so we can compare it with X6, so I don't think it has better sales

+1.

I really miss the cornered tail lights from Mercedes - I hate the full-block tail lights, they look horrendous on the E-Class and the ML.

From the spy shots above, BMW reverted back to lamps/bulbs for the tail lights instead of the LED bars?! Why?

I disagree. I think MB interiors are terrible and feel cheap. I also think they ride too soft. You don't feel connected while driving them.

To each their own though

So when the do the LCI version they can put in LED's. This has been going on for decades with BMW. Have you been living under a rock. JK

Please attach your photos showing the entire taillamp and design from behind as I dont see it here. Also put the pokemon next to that undisguised photo you have that no one else does so we can see what your talking about. With the pics here they are camo convered so you cant tell so I need to see your unreleased photo.

That side profile looks ugly, especially that upward incline near the side view mirror.I just don't understand why they are trying to make a bigger X3 which is Fugly to start off with.

The outer edges of the headlights are reminiscent of the E90's pointed corners...

Looks like a lot more rear seat room but cargo space is non-existent.
No provision for third row seat. Next Gen RR sport to get a third row option. Doesn't look as good or as aggressive as early renders. May be a giant disappointment!
