2013 X5M Roof Rails, has anyone removed them? - XBimmers.com

Anyone have experience with this? The dealer says they have to remove them and ad a painted fill in part for the roof rail?

It's funny you ask, I was going to post asking about the same thing. Curious if it's easy to delete them or if it will leave a hole where it was mounted.

I been told by BMW technicians that the headliner must be removed, which is a big PITA
I also hear the headliner can droop if not done perfectly!
As far as filling the hole i know some sport activity x5's have been ordered w rail-delete so im assuming theres a part that can be ordered.

Oh by the way I happened to love the rails on thr M and Msport models
It's the other models that have the very dated rails where there's space in between the rails and the roof line so 1994

Looks like they remove the whole headliner to get to anchor bolts to remove the roof rails then they add a delete rail.

They also have to pre-order the delete rail and paint it to match your color (it comes as flat black).

I did change mine to OEM silver rails to match the step rails..I did the labor my self and all I can tell you is that is a Mother

to remove them and install them..but totally worth it.
I did not go with the full delete option as sometimes I need to carry stuff, so I just attach the cross bars for those times that i need. Otherwise carrying anything else directly on the big sunroof was not safe for me.
