Burger Tuning N55 Stage 1 Tune - 2011 X5 3.5i

I acquired a 2011 X5 with a 3L engine a few months back, and just by sheer coincidence, I walked into a deal that allowed me to install and document the install process of the N55 Stage 1 tune from Burger Tuning. Initially, the wiring harness was missing a piece of hardware, and Terry Burger was terrific to work with. I ended up receiving the missing hardware a week ago, and last night, I managed to install the tune. The entire process took about 30 ~ 40 minutes. Everything is SO much easier the second time around. I took my sweet time to ziptie everything in place, so it took a little longer.

I only got a chance to take her out for a quick drive, but WOW. There is no turbo lag and the extra torque down low is very noticeable. As soon as you step on the gas, the X just moves forward. Granted, it's not as fast as the M3, but the drive-ability is definitely improved. The throttle response (aside from the slow auto tranny) is comparable to the E46 M3 which has six individual throttle bodies and is infamous for great throttle response.

After a few miles, I switched over to manual shifting. Up high, the engine really screams and it's definitely faster when the revs are high.

Overall, it's an excellent mod especially for the price. The install isn't too bad, and I will create a more detailed install doc with a long term review.

nice - are tune only? RSI tuning has a downpipe as well, which yields even more gains ontop of the tune. Did you try the stage 2? If we found the can wiring, that would be nice (like on the F10).

It's only a tune, and I haven't had a chance to look into a bigger down pipe. The stage 2 doesn't work on X5s unfortunately, so if Burger Tuning ever releases a stage 2, I'd be interested

Nice writeup, I just installed the same tune on my 2013 X5 35i, and the difference is extremely noticeable.

There is a lag though at around 2500-3000rpm

Nice write up as mentioned above, did you have to change out the plastic BMW OEM CP? I know these CPs are common for breaking once any type of tune is installed.

Cool thanks for the heads up, hopefully it's nothing that needs an upgrade until higher boost levels
