iPod Shuffle - XBimmers.com

Friends, sorry for the sophomoric question here. I am a longtime BMW driver, have now had a 2012 X5 for a while. But, I am very poor with modern technology :-) . I have an iPod shuffle which I have simply tried to hook-up to the USB entrypoint within my armrest, and the Multimedia display does not show it as "connected" at all. Any hints?

You need a Y-cable you can't just hook it up to the USB.
