staggered tires question

Hey gang.
Have a 2012 X5 with the Msport package and staggered setup. I want to throw some all seasons on for the winter. Normally I would do winters, but we're spending the next few months in Florida and don't really wanna cruise around south Florida with winter tires on. Also don't want to drive from the northeast at the end of November in summer tires.
Would it be possible to go to a non staggered set up for all seasons?

You can run a square setup, but not on the wheels if that's what you're asking. You can run have a spare set of the non-Sport X5 wheels/tires, but it'll look terrible as the X5 Sport fender flairs are made to accomodate larger wheels and tires.

Just replace your existing tires with the Continental ExtremeContact DWS tires, non-RFTs. Conti DWS are excellent all-season tires and should handle the snow just fine.

Excellent thanks! I was indeed asking that. As it's a lease, I didn't want to invest in new rims too.

Ah, the 50i M Sport without the 20" wheel option, yeah a pain to find all seasons for that. Kumho and Hankook have some in those sizes on TireRack, I wouldn't go with them though. I wonder if you couldn't squeeze the DWS in a 275/45/19 on both the front and the back, might be a little stretched in the back though.

Bingo.
Normally I would just go with a good winter tire for those months but because of the winters in Florida and GETTING there from here made me think just a solid all season would be ideal.
Guess I'm looking at new rims and good all seasons for winters now since when we come back in March it's still a bit chilly up here.
Who knew tires would be this difficult!!!!

I run the Mich Latitude HPs all seasons on the M Sport 20s. Put them out in the snow last night, no issues. If you decide to go bigger and fill out the wheel wells with the 20" option. DWS's are excellent in that size, but they go out of stock all the time, I couldn't get them in time for the start of snow season.

For what it's worth, I usually run Pirelli Scorpion Ice and Snow tires close to a full 6 months. They are performance biased and I really don't notice much difference in everyday driving when it's warm.

Conti doesn't make the 285/45R/19 but just came back from local tire guy that recommended putting a standard set up on the staggered rims - said it would be no problem and he's done it before. I have officially received 10 different answers to my questions and officially confused.

You'd have to go a bit narrow with the DWS, 275 instead of 285, check with your tire place, but they should fit on both the front and rear wheels.

Wouldn't that screw up the transfer case, since it's not the factory aspect ratio?

I didn't realize your MSport comes with 19s. Why is BMW giving options? 20s all the way, especially on an X5 MSport.

I searched on tire rack, only Kumho and Hankook have all-season tires for your size. OE uses CrossContact UHP SSR and Dueler H/P Sport RFT, but they're summer tires. I haven't heard anything bad on Hankook for winter use.

Beware on not using the same recommended tire size, BMW sized it appropriately on the staggered setup so all tires have the same rotation. Playing with different size will screw up your AWD system.

That's what I was afraid of. If I were to go to 20's, what size rims/tires should I look at? Keep them staggered or go to a squared set? If I have to buy new rims, may as well move up to 20's and fill out the wheel well and make it look right.

Aspect ratio doesn't matter, you just want all your tires to have roughly the same rolling circumference. Might make your speedo tad off, not that they aren't already.

If you move up to 20s and want to stay with a BMW rim, look for the 435Ms, they're only available on the M50d so far, won't be many here in the states. Otherwise go with the 333Ms.

Been recommended a staggered set in all seasons.
275/40/20 fronts
315/35/20 in back
My car is that metallic black/blue and am EXHAUSTED from cleaning brake dust so thinking of going matte black on the rims too...and got a sweet deal to boot!

Those are the OE sizes for the 20s, so you should be fine, what tire and wheel did you end up going with?

After a lot of research after suggestions here, think am going to stick with
the Conti DWS. Going to pick out the rims on Wednesday but leaning towards matte black at this point. Will post pics when I pick them out but not OEM's.

So here is the solution - new rep rims and Conti DWS staggered 20's.
Extremely happy.
