Winter Tires: RFT or non RFT?

Hey guy's quick question. Looking to order my winter tires pretty soon, have a x6 50i with M pack with the 20 inchers on it.

What winter tires you guys go for?

Do prefer RFT?

If you go the non RFT route what are your plans if/when you get a flat?

I just ordered, received, and installed a full set of winter wheels and tires from TireRack. I got a full set of 19x8.5 Sport Edition WX5 black spoke wheels with 255/50R-19 Pirelli Scorpion Winter Run Flat Run Flat XL Tires and BMW compatible TPMS sensors. Mounted, balanced, and delivered for less than $2500!

The set is "-1" sized from my 20" M wheels and a little narrower (as is the typical recommendation for a winter wheel/tire set). O.D. on the tires is obviously the same though. The black rims look great and the tires seems to run well and are quiet. These are not particularly expensive rims, but they are for winter use and will see more wear and tear than my factory (Summer) set in any case.

I just put them on this weekend and I'm pretty happy so far...

BMW designed it for RFTs

BMW designed your vehicle to run RFTs. Yes they are stiffer, that's taken into consideration. If they are too stiff for you, buy a Lexus or a Merc...

I'm serious.

When I had my X6 I ordered my OEM winter setup with standard (non-RFT) tires.

I ordered the OEM spare tire anyway (for $150) when I ordered my car just incase I was on a road-trip more than 50-100 miles from home and got a flat.

I used the standard BMW winter tire package for the X6. The OEM package was the 19" style 232 wheels with Goodyear Ultra Grip RFTs and TPMS. This set-up worked great since 'no spare' was the only option at the time. I used these for two seasons and I'm actually planning to sell them now.

1. Did you get the space saver spare? If so, then you can get non RFTs.
2. If you didn't then go RFTs

For me, even though I have the space saver spare, I would still go RFT since changing a tire in the winter sucks.

I would also find some OEM wheels so your car looks decent for 6 months out of the year.

so there would be no issue with running 20x10, 20x11 widths in winter if they are with snow tires?

You will get much better traction in the snow and ice with the 19s and/or 18s. But the snows (even on 20" wheels) will help a ton - as in, you can't drive in the snow with the summer tires that come on the vehicle.
