Scratch on my X6

hey guys,

last night I noticed a scratch on the driver side, right on the front wheel.
The paint came off, any advice on how and if possible to fix it? I know that some of you would say..it's just a car...but I like to keep it as perfect as possible.

thanks for your advice

Your options are:
1) Get the entire fender re-painted, which would probably run you any where from $600 to $1200, or
2) Go to the dealership and get touch-up paint for $20-30 and do it yourself. May not end up being 100% perfect, but will do its job unless someone looks for paint repair

People these days are idiots. My heart dropped when I saw a giant ding on my door of my X5 which only had 1500 miles on the odo at the time. Cost me $60 to repair at a paintless dent removal place. I remember which car did it (couldn't see it in the day time), so if I ever see the truck in the parking lot again, it'll need 4 new tires.
I feel you. No disrespect for the elderly people, but they tend to slam their doors into your car.

Last time I washed my car, I saw the # of dings has increased to 5 on the driver side door

Thank you, I may try the touch up paint, but I am a bit afraid that it may get worst. I watched a bunch of videos on the internet, but to me the final results was not that great. I may avoid using sand paper.
Worst thing is that I am 99% sure it was my parking spot neighbour.

u should be able to get it done at a reasonable body shop for about $300. they will need to sand it down use some filler then resand, spray it and blend it in but they can do it without repainting the entire fender and u will never even notice it was there. sux none the less, gl.

Dr.ColorChip

Amazing stuff. Ultimately not meant for scratches and nice dings like you have, but works really well. I used it on my hood and will use it on the new scratch my son did with his bike this weekend. Love this stuff.

Thanks for posting the image but I didn't find any big scratch over here. It's just a minute one and I think painting that particular area will do work. I can also see that the painting has come off from the car. So don't worry the car will regain its luster once again.

Do you mind taking picz for "before-and-after" comparison?

looks like a stone chip to me. All you need to do is touch up paint, wet sand, buff and polish. A good detailer should be able to fix it.

Their website has a bunch of before & after pictures, but I would also like to see the resulting pictures from a fellow forum buddy.

It feels so magical...

Here you go

First off - disclaimers..
1. The car is dirty - real dirty. So I just cleaned it in the area. The stuff you see on the right side of the final picture is dirt not a scratch.
2. The camera would not focus after the scratch had been cleared up - the paint was so shiny, it could not figure out what to focus on! So I did manual.
3. When walking by the car before, you could notice the scratch, now you can't. But if I said, can you find the scratch on the lower part of the door, most of us here could find it (it really doesn't show in the picture). But the beauty of Dr color chip is that it does not leave any blobs behind - the paint just goes in the scratch/chip*. So it hides it more than it fills it.
*this stuff is really meant for chips, but as you can see it works for scratches. I did do it 3 times however to get the full effect.

Had to look up this posting. I just saw a commercial for this. They actually use a carbon metallic BMW on the sample ordering screen. Maybe that is actually a bad omen....lol
