X6 owners...I need your advice

Greetings,

I am absolutely in like with the X6. I was in love with it until I read that the x6 consumes oil beyond the engine break-in period. I was all set to order the 2012 X^ for late April 2011 production until I stared reading these things. So, X6 owners please tell me what other problems you have had with this vehicle. Is oil consumption the least of my worries? What is your experience?

Regards!

Have not had any such problem with my 2010X6, 3.5, with 6.5K kilometers on it.

If you're looking for reliability the X6 diesel would be the better choice cause the 35i has that fuel pump issue. I believe the 50i have that oil consumption issue but its a powerful engine.

30d- Reliable and Fuel Efficient... Diesel
40d- Reliable and Fast... Diesel
35i- Smooth and Fast.... Fuel Pump issue
50i- Powerful and Great V8 Exhaust sound... Oil Consumption and maybe Battery Drain
X6M- GOD

I have a 2008 X6 3.5 that has 62000 miles. The only issue I HAD was the HPFP, high pressure fuel pump, the did need a few change outs and software updates until it was resolved. That was with N54 engine.

I am taking delivery of a new 2011 X6 this week, another 3.5, and have NOT heard of any issues overwhelming to date.
Reason for change: New engine, color preference, stereo, technology updates.

I do love the X6!

If someone changes from a X6 to another X6, that means he really loves X6!

It only oil consumption, no big deal. They'll just add another quart and it all good. Another issue is the battery drain, after they replace it no more problem.

Production line from 2008 to 2009 do faced the issue with fuel pump and high pressure pump. But it was recalled by BMW world wide to replace it without any cost to the owner. After mine been recalled and changed out, I do not face any issue with it...let's keep the finger crossed! Cheerssssss.....

Thanks everyone. I spent my lunch at a local BMW dealer and bought the head mechanic a cup of coffee. He basically told me what everyone here said. Namely,
the 35i engine had some minor injector issues, high pressure fuel pump issues and that all the 35 engines in the bimmer lineup are undergoing a eprom reflash.

the 50 engine consumes some oil but all saisd that this is generally due to the turbo and that some oil consumption is normal over the life of this engine.

All this said I am going forward with my April order. So I should have a new 2012 by late June, early July.

However, if anybody has any other issues that arent mentioned in this thread please post them here.

I love this forum!

Garage List
I also had my high preasure fuel pump and filter+sensors replaced.

Now I'm ordering new tires coz the run flats are too hard, the car gets hard hit bang passing small pot holes or uneven road surfaces. Worst of all Spare tire is an option!

Rear view/reverse camera is not so clear/bright, you hardly can see anything at night! whish they have a night vision instead!

My experience is you can find negative comments regarding anything if you search for them.

Do some cars burn more oil than others? Sure.
Do all cars burn a lot of oil? No.
Are all cars problem free? No
Is any car problem free? Rarely.

100% agreed with you on the reverse camera..it really sucks especially during rainy night! Best reverse camera so far I come across is Lexus LX570!

My first X6 the 2009 Xdrive30D rearview camera had poor visibility at night and also the premium sound system was a distortion nightmare . The first generation Idrive was really what everyone used to say "only a teenager would know how to use it"

After it crashed i've order the 2011 fully load, with all the bells and whistle Everything has improved, from the rearview camera with top view to the High End Individual Sound System which in my opinion sounds a bit harsh but was major upgrade from the premium. I have no regrets buying this Ultimate Driving Machine and i can promise you wont too

I ordered high end audio for my x6, so what do you mean when you say it sounds harsh? I used to have pro logic 7 and was quite happy about it, thought/heard that high end audio sounds great (on an m3 at least).

You may have some oil consumption on a diesel BMW if you do above 80 mph on the motorway. This is normal.

I have an audi a4 with the Bose Premium Sound system package and the sound is quite enjoyable for daily driving. A nice warm relaxing sound which gives me motivation on my long journey to work. This rather more expensive High end Individual system is much louder than the Bose but it's quite annoying to listen to. No matter how much ive adjusted the equalizer, i just can't seem to get the right sound.

I have X6 50i. I added 1 bottle at 6500 mile, it never happened again, I am at 17K now.
I think it's normal it's consumes some oil.
Other problems:
The break makes noise when the weather gets cold.
The air condition fan makes some noise, like anh..... if you turn the fan off, it disappears, but i don't think you want to do it in the summer.
Beside that, it consumes too much gas, but I love the car.
