Spy Shots: BMW X6 xDrive50i performance model

According to Motor Authority, BMW currently testing its own high-performance version of the X6 50i. The latest spy shots show the car’s new front cowling, revealing much larger intakes than any previous X6 model plus a slightly revised grille and new side mirrors.

OK guess it could be but seems odd considering the lengths BMW goes to when trying to disguise a new model during tests. This one sort of screams look at my front cowling, why bother. If they didn't have anything there most people would give it a second look.

It looks like the two inner exhaust ports each have a vacuum actuator that opens up the exhaust port at a certain rpm. My brother’s Z06 Corvette has a dual mode exhaust that opens up at about 3500 rpms causing less back pressure and most of all has an excellent exhaust sound. Is BMW experimenting with a dual mode exhaust system?

Yep my RS4 has this also, we took the vacuum tube off and taped it up, sounds great and gives 10NM at the bottom end, it improves the drive as well.

I don't think it's an M or performance version of X6.

Because look at the axhaust pipes, not all 4 of them are working. The inner ones are much more cleaner than the outer ones, which probably means they're not connected to any source.

I think its just the M sports package for X6 and the exhausts are there to distract people with other questions.

Can't wait to see the X6 and X5 M versions.

Why else would BMW file trademarks for these names then?

Since the TT50 engine is going in the 2011 lotus
(http://www.autoblog.com/2008/02/16/2...twin-turbo-v8/)
and the next M5
(http://www.worldcarfans.com/9080708....rbo-v8-from-x6)
I suspect TT50 base engine will be used for a lot of models, you could increase the X6 hp by just upping the boost.
