Question about 2009 BMW X6 50i xDrive
Hi everyone,
I just saw a deal on a 2009 BMW X6 50i xDrive, but it has 109 000 miles. Is the V8 a good engine? Should I take it or not? And what should I check on it to make sure I will be good with the car for "long" term? Thank you !

Some things that can go wrong with this engine can set you back 8 to 10k in repairs. One guy on this forum spent 36k in 6 years on repairs. If your firm on getting a e70 or e71 over 100k look at the 35i for a more reliable high milage version their more bullet proof and cost less to repair. If your set on the 50i get a lower milage one so you may be able to get a warranty with it. |

I heared that the 50i is not the best V8... exept the 4.4L from the X5M/X6M. I know the 35i is better engine with his 3.0L TwinTurbo. Okay, I think I will walk away from this 50i lol. The car is no more warranty. Thank you !

Just don't drive it. I believe you may not be able to walk away. Go drive a 35i, they are plenty quick enough, and you wont know there is greener performance grass on the other side.
My truck just clicked off 95k, I am not scared. I do have a possible backup DD, and many years of professional mechanic experience behind me, so my results are not usual

Well,
I must be one of the luckiest person with BMWs. I have a 2005 X5 3.0I, bought it in Germany brand new. No major problem in 12 years and 130K miles. A year and a half ago, I wanted to try something with more power so I bought a 2010 X6 50i with 90K miles. Now it has 125K, that is 35K in less than a two years. Again no major issues so far. As soon as I got it, I bought all new suspension parts and installed them myself. I have replaced a couple of the sensor, but the engine and transmission are still going strong. One thing that I do with my cars is that I am always checking them with ISTA to see if there is any problems. Preventive maintenance is the key. |
