Tales from the local BeamerDealer

Talked to my friend from the official BMW dealer in town. Some time ago he told me that they already have about 5-6 X6 in the service shop. Was curious why they where in for. About 2 of them where involved in minor collisions in urban traffic. And the rest of them (all gasoline models, purchased directly from the US) had either electrical or suspension problems. I can understand the suspension issue (since we don't have a large majority of local roads of the quality of US ones) but don't dig the electrical issues.

I find that very strange, BMW would have high quality controls in place where ever they are made US or not, just because they were built in the US does not mean they come out with faults, my car hear in the UK, was made also in the States (as all are I am told), NO such problems at all, apart from the front disk scoring which was sertainly not a design / production line fault, my car has been fab in every way.

The bulk of the X6 parts are from the X5. The current X5 is the most reliable SUV on the market accoridng to recent surveys.

The phrase "electrical issues" is vague at best. It could be anything from needing the adapter iPOD installed, to picky customers needing education with iDrive.

I think the best source for X6 reliability is on this forum. If there were common issues, we would be complaining right here.

I do plan on getting an iDrive PROGMAN update when I take my X6 in for service. I believe the 335 software update reduces some turbo lag which may benefit the X6. I noticed a little more lag than I would like when pushing it hard.

iDrive software is call PROGMAN (Program Update). New version come out on a regular basis to solve issues, and add functionality.

The X6 shipped with 29.x, I think they are up to 30.x or 31.x.

When the software gets updated, it can affect anything from iDrive menus, ABS, turbos, engine performance, rough idle, lighting, transmission shift patterns, etc. The entire software package can update just about every part of the car including the iDrive interface itself.

Ok, so if you stir me up with the classic Transylvania Dracula bullshit I am gonna ask for specific details from the service shop. Deda, you are the first one invited at the Vampires Ball, this winter. Some gorgeous Romanian virgin vampires are anxiously awaiting to suck your blood.

agree just saying some cars are having issues doesn't help anyone here. We need to know what problems others are having so we can look out for them.

I asked for specifics. . Nothing wrong for X6 so far. All cars are new. They had a case of malfunction of IDrive for an X5, plus another issue with a valve that did not open to release gases on all four exhausts for another one. I also asked him about pneumatic suspension on the front. . .He said it is not so reliable and the repair is quite expensive. .. .that's why they don't offer it.
