Yes there is.

On the 35d, the dip stick can be located between the engine cover and the intake tube the goes from the radiator support to the air box. There’s a black oblong dip stick. Pull it out, wipe it off, reinsert and verify your oil level.

Let me go ahead and take a look, internet always more reliable than dealer since they told me there isnt one. So since there is a oil dipstick im pretty sure there is a trans fluid one too? My 89towncar, 79 Eldorado and c3 corvette have dipsticks but its pretty sad to see BMW cheap out on those stuff...☹

There isn’t a tranny dipstick. Our transmissions fill like a manual, no reason for a dip stick.

If you send me a pm with your email or cell #, I’ll send you a pic of the dipstick’s location.

mine is a faulty oil level sensor, also for no reason there is coolant in my engine oil.. at70k km! they checked the pressure and staff told me the gasket is fine... also my I have something wrong with my engine heads, at 70k km! My best guess is because those extensive idle situation. I am wondering BMW engineering probably never thought some one would keep their car running for a whole months and idle their car like 12 hrs a day.

How did you tell you had water in your oil?

The M57 is very robust and to my knowledge, no one has popped a head gasket. Actually modified m57’s have been breaking pistons but the head gasket is still intact.

They send the oil sample out to analyze. The car has been on till this moment from 2days ago after the oil change..

How much coolant is in the oil?

It’s likeky from the egr cooler and not the headgasket.

Okay.... It's a sad today for me for the X5. I got a faulty EGR and Faulty SCR. white smoke spewing out of exhaust, stupid dealer told me I need a new engine for no reason. Went to indy shop realize that I have do have large amount of coolant in oil/oil in coolant (Looks milky and shit). BMW dealer even told me that BMW isn't designed for 24/7 on the road and idle for extended period of time (bunch of BS, have my buick and Q7 and all my work trucks F450 powerstrokes are running 24/7 never broke down). Instead of fixing it I just dumped my car in my storage unit and let it sit there for I don't know when I will decided to fix it later. Indy shop told me that it will be extremely expensive. My car have 67,000km (41,000mi) on it. Looks like you shouldn't idling your X5 for more than couple months, I usually keep it running until I need a oil change or something).

Can someone describe how this can happen?
I assume the EGR cooler is surrounded/cooled by coolant, and somehow coolant could enter the gas cooling chamber (bad gasket or crack?). The coolant in the exhaust gas being sent back to the combustion chamber gets past the piston rings? and into the engine oil?

Check your crankcase ventilation hoses. I had white smoke coming out of my exhaust when idling or stop and go traffic. Bmw told me i needed valve seals to be replaced and i said hell no. Went to a indy german shop specialist and said i needed crankcase ventilation hoses to be replaced and thats whats causing oil consumption plus white smoke from exhaust. my 2011 x5 50i has 70,000 miles with no extended warranty but luckily my crankcase ventilation hoses under warranty for 10 years or 120,000 miles on my vehicle. Went back to the stealership and insisted to replace the crankcase ventilation hoses since part index is the old version. They took the car for 5 days and replaced 4 fuel injectors in the second bank and replaced the crankcase ventilation hoses and voila the white smoke stopped coming from exhaust and my oil consumption decreased dramatically. Now i add 1 quart of oil every 1800 miles instead of 950 miles intervals. Check and see if your ventilation hoses are covered even if you dont have warranty the parts were extended on certain vehicles. I hope this can solve your issue buddy.
