Memorial day is here, let us know about the veterans in your family.

During World War II, one of my grandfathers served in Europe, and his name was Adolph.
The other one served with the Navy in the Persian Gulf during World War II, and was the Persian Gulf ping-pong champion

One of my Great Uncles died during the WW1 at the Somme and I'm going to be visiting his grave in a few weeks.

My Father served in the Australian Army for 35 years, just missed out on Vietnam (thankfully).

I am forever greatful to those who have served my Country.

Grandfather. WWII and Korea. Was stateside during WWII, guarding a bridge from the barrier islands in GA to the mainland. That's where he met my grandmother. Served in theater in Korea. God rest his soul.

Edit: passed away many years later at home.

Its a small world......

Talking to my neighbor on Friday, she has a very interesting story. She's german (but no accent, you would never know unless she told you) and met her husband when he was stationed in Germany. After they got married, some years later, she found out that during WWII, her grandfather was part of a flak unit in her hometown, and her husbands grandfather was a P-47 pilot who had attacked that town.

My maternal grandfather was a Naval engineer on board the USS Thompson (destroyer) during WWII. They were part of the group that shelled the beaches prior to D-Day, and then provided support during the actual invasion. He went on to retire as a Commander and then work for McDonnell Douglas and eventually Boeing.

My father also served, but not in a branch of the military. He worked for the state department via Air America in Laos, Korea.

Various other aunts, uncles, etc. served in various branches of the military. Army, Navy, etc.

Great grandfathers (one Army, one Marine), great uncles (various branches), both grandfathers (Army and Army Air Corps), my father (retired USMC Sgt, Major), me (U.S. Navy, U.S.S. Barry DDG-52), and my son is currently active duty in the Navy as a Corpsman in Corpus Christi, TX but he is about to be deployed with a Marine unit out of 29 Palms, CA (where I was born coincidentally).
