Still living with the parents. Nothing wrong with that even at my age, at least that's what I tell myself

GF needed a roommate. I moved in with her. I was 23.

That was the last time I ever wore a plain white t-shirt with pressed sleeves. My mommy used to do my laundry and ironing up until I moved out. She found peace and comfort in doing those types of "motherly" things.

Funny to see people in such a hurry to move out. Live at home and bank roll as long as possible.

I see people try to establish themselves as self made by moving out at 18 and then on the other hand there are doctors still living at home piling stacks of cash.

26 still living at home. Paid off my student loans at 24. The thought of flushing more money than absolutely necessary down the gov toilet repulsed me way more than social stigma about living at home in America could.

Just saving up now and putting more in retirement accounts, but doing so aimlessly. Neither a house nor an apartment offers a good deal for my goals and priorities.

Not everyone is born into a stable home. Parent(s), step parents, mom/dad's significant others can be physically/sexually abusive and they need to leave. It could be a financially difficult situation where the parent(s) lose the home and living with them in the car is worse than living on a friends coach. At fourteen most become a ward of the state and go to foster homes. Most states allow for emancipation at sixteen.

I went to college at 18 and never came back.

I am somewhat surprised at the number above that drive new or close to new BMW's, mid to late 20's and still live at home. I took driving a crappy car and living on my own over being at home. Looking back no question I would do it again this way.

Not sure about the others, but my plan after graduating and getting a job was to buy a new car. That allowed me to establish my credit rating and give me the opportunity to buy a place and move out.

18. Sept. 11, 2006 if I remember correctly - early move in day for my dorm. Weird how some of those dates stick with you.

I haven't lived at my parents home since, and although they did take out some loans in their name to help fund my education, I am paying the balance off.

18 when I moved out to head to the freshman dorms. I did a brief stint (1 month) in my mid-20's, but that was basically while I looked for an apartment after I moved back.

Compared to other cultures that stay living with family for a while, typically the "American culture" thing to do is to leave home after finishing high school whether it be to attend college, join the service, or to just be on your own. However, I think that mindset is changing with the rising cost of living these days.

I suppose I could have moved back in with my parents after college, but my job was on the opposite side of town which would have made for an awful commute.

It's interesting how much of American culture frowns upon grown children living at home with their parents. If the kids are working and not just freeloading and trying to make something of themselves, there should be no shame in saying they live at home.

I'm also Asian and it's within the culture to stay at home till one gets married. I finally moved out of my parent's place at 28. While I was saving money and paying down debt, what pushed me to move out was my mother's issue with my then girlfriend on top of the other issues going on. She didn't like that I was dating a Caribbean sister (Jamaican/Barbadian). Ended up buying a new construction townhouse which I sold 2 years later to buy the single family home I still live in today. The funny thing is my relationship with my mother got better and I had to move back in for a few months after selling my townhouse and waiting for my single family home to be built.

Technically I moved out at 18 and haven't been back, but I have received help multiple times from them when needed over the years. My parents have been pretty amazing, and knowing that my father achieved what he has with zero help whatsoever makes me respect him even more given how difficult it has been even with their help. Now they are a bit older with some health issues I am trying to convince them to move close to me; I am really looking forward to being able to help out and return the favor.

I used to be a little ashamed that I still live at home (mainly due to a lot of my friends being caucasians and have moved out long ago and society). Nowadays, I don't care and tell people that I live at home. I feel it's more accepted now than before. Also, I've realized that it's not just Asian cultures that do that. IMO a lot of people wish they could live at home but simply cannot (parents, etcs.).

My parents are cool. We can do whatever we want (bring girls home, have bbqs, parties, etc.) as long as we don't break down the house. It doesn't hurt that my gf loves my parents' cooking either.

I wasn't ashamed of living at home and I didn't hide it with anyone. It didn't hurt my dating life. I would say most if not all the girls I dated were more interested if I had goals and was driven to do something with my life.

The ones that were quick to stereotype someone living at home...well it just helped me know where to categorize that type of person.

For me, since most of my friends have moved out, it kinda made me feel like I should be more independent too. Haha

Mine weren't. They were from the old country and very traditional. And my mom in particular was very controlling... I couldn't wait to get the hell out.

This is very common in Europe, Asia, Middle East etc. I'm 21, live with Family, in College and work Full-Time. Family always #1.
