with all due respect moocow, but "Big, safe, and quick". Isn't that a contradictory statement? That's what's wrong with people in America. Perception. why is big, safe? and safe for who? the person driving it? what about the person these huge, heavy overpowered machine kill when they hit, or can't avoid in an accident due to the poor handling because of the height and weight. To me it's a scary thought to think of a soccer-mom with kids in the back screaming about their dvd player not working, while on the phone driving a 5000 pound machine with 350hp. I know I'm generalizing "SUV,SAV" whatever, but...... again, just my opinion.

Not bad, but it definitely looks smaller than the previous one. I think I would rather have the new 335i e92 over this though.

I'm definitely generalizing, but I don't like the way a lot of SUV drivers operate their vehicles. Too fast--in both the best and worst of conditions, too many chances taken, too aggressive for what I perceive are the actual handling abilities of their vehicles, tailgating. So, that makes me dislike encountering SUVs on the road.

I'm a E46 3 series owner and someone who has found more recent BMW's as very interesting to look at but not necessarily pretty, balanced, or aggressive. In some respects, they've appeared unpolished, unfinished, and unrefined in their detailing... Well, this is the first new BMW in about 6 years that gives me a tingly, "WOW!" feeling upon seeing the first photos. It has somehow recaptured that aggressive, balanced sense of mission in its styling while still carrying all of the design cues of the modern BMW's. There's also a new sense of refinement, crafting, and detailing that I think has been largely absent from more recent, blunt designs like the 7, 5, and 3. This is especially evident in the interior, which is outright gorgeous and puts the rest of the BMW line to shame (isn't BMW's new interior designer from Audi? I can certainly believe it looking at those photos...). The contemporary BMW styling language has just (finally) graduated to fully mature and desirable. The 3-series coupe, which I still think looks great, was *almost* there, still being a bit "off" from some angles. But the X5 is the real deal. I believe next up is the new 7 series, then the redone 5. I can't wait! If they carry this X5's sense of purpose, balance, aggressiveness, and refinement of details, they'll be incredible cars indeed! - Garris |

Did anyone notice on these pics that the Nav and the radio units are 2 separate entities with full faceplates on the console unlike the current 3 series where if you get the Nav you lose the radio faceplate instead it's accessed thru the Nav.
Why couldn't they do this on the 3 series E90 with the Nav? The problem with the X5 is gas mileage, if it could get 19/20 city then it would be a consideration. |

I must say I like the new sport wheels. They remind me of the Lambo Gallardo wheels, which are just a cast aluminum form of sex wrapped in rubber, ha. Hmm, that just gave me a great metaphor. Tires are like condoms, they should always be on person and car and they keep you safe as long as they don't blow out.

Exhibit B: The 7-Series had an electronic parking brake way before the Q7 was even a thought.

Go to post #2 for official video of the new X5 in motion. That is so weird how that shifter works, you just tap it and it works, take some getting use to. The interior is the best BMW has done in years.
