X5M Rear Tire Wear
Looking for opinions on tires for my 2012 X5M, standard 20" staggered setup (275/40, 315/35). Originally when I purchased the car I put on Continental DWS 06 because my wife's car had dedicated winter tires and so we would always use that in really bad winter weather. Fast forward and now I have a winter setup for the X5M and so I don't *technically* have a need for all season tires.
My only issue with the DWS is the wear characteristics; I have even wear but already down to ~4/32nds after about 12k miles with no mechanical issue (alignment checks out). Besides the wear the tires have been fine; plenty of grip for the truck (I am not out there chasing lap times or anything) and the road noise and comfort has been as expected and a sure upgrade from the stock RFTs. So my question is if others have achieved similar mileage from the Michelin PSS or PS4? Ultimately, I understand that tire wear will likely always be heavy in the back, but if I could upgrade to a more dedicated summer tire without throwing tire wear completely out the window it would be something I consider. |

My own experience with your sizes or slightly larger is actually a little worse : ~12k on Michelin PSS. Spirited driving style, but I don't think I'm aggressive. Alignment has been fine. Wear has been typical for the vehicle- heavy inside front wear, roughly even in the rear.

Thanks, honestly that wear isnt that much worse, since I only drive 8-9k miles per year on the truck and going forward only ~6k or so of that would be on the 'summer' tires so as long as I could get 2 years out of it it might be good.

That was basically my thinking as well: two summer driving seasons per set. Expect about the same on the winter set too.
I happen to have chosen lightly used rubber with good results, but I know few owners even consider such an option. |

I just purchased atturo az850’s to try them out. I think the set was $550 shipped. They had good reviews online. That might be worth a shot. I only have 500 miles on them now but they are more comfortable than the run flats. Compared to DWS 06 which are my go tires.

I am happy with Achilles Desert Hawk
They are good for summer and light rain and snow. Reasonably priced. Have a curb protection band too. https://simpletire.com/achilles-315-...ag313520-tires https://simpletire.com/achilles-275-...ag274020-tires |

Appreciate the input, all feedback welcome. Was eyeing the PSS or PS4 (love them on my M3) but was concerned with excessive wear which so far doesn’t seem too unreasonable.

^ Sounds like your perspective is about right. The tire discussion on this forum can be a bit like a "which oil is best" debate. Tire wear for X5s, and the M in particular, is pretty rapid regardless of brand/model of tire. Some folks see the extra cash for PSS, PS4, or anything close as a waste. Others (including me) see having the X5M without such rubber as a waste of the performance potential of the vehicle.
