Can you replace it and have it registered at an Indy later rather than doing it all at once? What batteries are recommended for E70/71 set up?

Hard to make a recommendation because we can't tell what market you're in. Different countries have different brands...and their numbering system may be slightly different. In the US market...a 49/H8 or 95R/H9 battery class size usually fits (you'll need to determine what brand you want...there's plenty of discussions across multiple BMW forms on this topic). But make sure you have enough room for the 95R/H9...it is longer and you may not have enough room in the battery compartment for it on some BMW models.

I got an AGM battery (read too many stories about errors with non-AGM batteries) at Autozone for about half the price of a dealership one. Car will need to be coded since the CCA, amp hours whatever are different.
