Motor Oil?

Hey guys,

First I have to say this is my first BMW I have ever owned and after almost 4 years I'm still in love with her.

That said, I am getting a message that I need to add a quart of oil to avoid engine damage.

The BMW dealership is across town and would be 45 minutes of driving to make the round trip. I want to go down to Pep Boys or a similar parts house and buy a quart of "Motor Oil" for my 2011 4.4 litre.

My last Bmw service order says the oil they used was "Motor Oil SAE 5W-30 Longlife:832511

I always assumed that synthetic oil was used but there is no mention of synthetic.

Anyone know what oil I should be looking for?

After 2015 BMW started recommending Shell Pure Plus Synthetic Oil. I think any good quality synthetic motor oil in the correct weight would be fine for something like this. I had to add a quart every few months when I had an M5, only one quart in 4 years is pretty good.

Pennzoil UOA Program

Hi ricosan - Just wanted to reach out and see if you made a decision yet about which motor oil to use. Have you tried Pennzoil Synthetics? If not, we wanted to offer you the opportunity to participate in the Pennzoil Used Oil Analysis program. Through the program, you'll be sent two samples of Pennzoil Synthetics along with testing supplies, so you can compare the current oil you're using to our motor oil. Lab results are also included from Blackstone. If you're interested in participating, please send us a private message so we can fill you in on additional details. We look forward to hearing back from you! - The Pennzoil Team
