Long term X5M owners - would like your feedback

I'm on fence with moving forward on one. Need feedback from fellow passionate owners. I appreciate feedback in terms of how you like it? Do you plan on keeping it for a long time? Dislikes? Regrets? Thank you very much!

truly a great ride. great balance of utility and performance not found in anything else out there short of P-Cayenne Turbo. I'd have to say its been in the shop a bit too much but always warranty covered. Also, I am not a commuter but if i were and it was a trafficky commute (LA, NYC, Seattle, D.C., etc. this rig will net you 9 mpg. HWY miles are fine but heavy traffic this thing is at ferrari v12 levels of gas consumption. What else are you guys looking at?

Thank you for the feedback Joe!

This has been a dream car for me since I first did a test drive in 2010. Now I have an opportunity to get into a CPO with 24K and all of the equipment/color combos I would want. It is covered by the CPO until 2016. I am thinking that this will be a long term commitment for me. I am thinking long haul if I do it. I would see this almost as a hobby car for me. I work from home so I don't travel much. If I do go out it is for sales appointments which could be 2-4x per month and I get reimbursed for gas. So the weekend driving would be on me, which is for the most part local. I put on less than 10k per year so by the time I pay this off I would have about 84k total miles on it. My other choice is I stay in my very practical 2011 X3 M sport when the lease is up and own that after about 5 years and 70k miles.

I'm not sure if I'm considered a "long term" owner, but I had my first X5M for about a year before it was totaled from a hit and run. I missed the X5M so much that I replaced it with an identical one.

After the accident and getting back into a new one, I definitely realized how perfect this vehicle is. It all depends on your personal needs a preferences of course. As for me, it's perfect because it can not only transport my two Dobermans, but load up the groceries and haul ass, even through turns, all at the same time.

Not quite an X5, but this guy has 82k on his X6M without any real problems.

After having my X5m for almost 2 years, I honestly cannot imagine another vehicle I would want to drive on a daily basis (and I've had my share of performance vehicles). Comfort, practicality and the shear amount of performance is un-matched, even by the P-Cayenne Turbo s, as it is dimensionally smaller than the BMW (I test drove one and didn't care for the lack of room compared to the X5m). It has had some issues, but covered under warranty.
I would never consider the x3 m-sport-way too small, no performance when compared to the X5m. After owning the X5m, I would never consider any other X-series after having them as service loaners.

Coming up on one year of ownership in April, but I can already tell you this is the best all around performance vehicle you can get. It is an absurdly practical impractical family based M car. One could argue M5 or a sedan of similar caliber, but you wouldn't want to take a M5 somewhere that's muddy like a farm. You wouldn't want to take a M5 to the beach either. You wouldn't want to put animals in your M5, and you sure as heck couldn't fit the amount of stuff in a M5 that you can in this thing. It by no means excels at any one area, but is absurdly competent in all.

Coming up on almost 1.5 years of fun with the X5M. I agree with the others, the most practical impractical vehicle I've ever had. My wife has a TrailBlazer SS which I always thought was fast and fun. That is until the M showed up. So far only one trip back to the dealer for oil and an oil change. I will agree, not the most gas friendly vehicle I've ever had but well worth every gallon it has used!

I sold my Trailblazer SS when I bought my X5M! That SS was awesome!

I traded my SS Trailblazer in for the X5M...well worth it. I have only owned it a month, but it is much nicer than my worked SS!!

I bought it CPO with 33k so I'm hoping it will be good to me!

I have been a gear head for over 20years and I have never owned anything like this. I don't think you can replace it. Like others said it's fast, brakes hard, handles well and takes the wife, kids and groceries in comfort. I also use mine in the winter where as my past "toys" always had to be parked for our 6 month winters.

I traded in my Saab 9-7x Aero, which is the TB SS in the Saab body for my X5M as well. Seems to be a popular choice!! I do get better mileage in the X5M over the Saab-never got more than 17, but I can easily top 19 in the X on longer trips.

I loved the Saab 9-7x Aero! Although it was essentially the same as my SS, it had a better looking interior...rare too!

Just passed one year of ownership (DieWolf and I got ours the same week in December 2012 ). Hands down the best SUV on earth. Cannot go wrong.

Is the X5M your daily for all of you?

I have an Audi S4 (V8 4.2L = 15.8L/100km) and it's my daily car. Do you think I will see a big difference with the X5M's consommation?

It's a daily driver for me at an average of 12mpg. Not a big deal since I don't have a long commute to work.

Thanks! Mine was one of only 21 that was made in silver, the other 479 in 2009 were carbon black. When I had a tune done for it, the tuner also said the same thing-that he thought the interior was nicer. I just didn't like having only a 4 speed, although I really liked it, very comfortable on long trips. Were you ever on TBSS Owners? I was AERO SS.

Sorry for the thread jack!! Rather ironic how many came from the same vehicle to the X5M.

Mine is my daily driver, up to around 65k miles so far.

Had mine for 2 and half years

Terrible gas mileage
engine malfunction message would pop up once in awhile. It didn't lose power. I would just shut it off and turn it back on. and poof, it was gone
auto hatch broke(dealer fixed)
some of the piano trim was loose.
all little issues, no bi deal. But I can say, probably not a vehicle to own after warranty run out

Lol, I was Corvine SS on TBSSowners.com! I think I remember yours because there were only a few guys with the Saab. Small world! I guess the X5M is the next step up for us LS2 guys hahaha
