The dealer couldn't figure out what was making the rattle noise. My car was in the shop for 45 days and BMWNA ended up doing a buyback. When I first brought the car in for the problem the dealer said they couldn't hear anything either. I had to drive around with the shop foreman and duplicate the noise myself. I suggest you drive with the shop foreman and try to pinpoint the problem to him. Good Luck!

Did the rattle come from the engine as you accelerate? Is it a Constant sound or does it go away? Mine goes away after the car has reached a comfortable speed.

Sorry for all the questions, it's just that you are the only one with this issue.

I only hear the rattle noise when going over uneven surface from 5 mph to 40 mph. The rattle is constant when going over bumps. But on a smooth surface I cannot hear it. The rattle was coming from the driver side engine compartment. But when in the highway I cannot hear the rattle noise at all, maybe due to the noise level when driving at high speed. I hope this help.

So BMWNA is willing to replace it for non-mechanical issue? I have a gong noise coming from my rear passenger side. I thought since it was only a noise issue then they wouldn't replace it. I'm going to bring it back in to see if they can fix it then and hope they can't! Haha.

Non mechanical issue or not, BMWNA replaced mine, which I am very happy about. BMWNA customers relation was very helpful. The dealership is not very helpful in solving this matter, they could care less. It's all about sales for them.

Lemon buy back, they couldn't figure out how to resolve the rattle issue, so they processed the buy back. He is much happier with the newer X5 M sport though. So am i =)
