Extended storage & adaptive fixing system

I'm finalising the specification on a 40d, and see that there is an 'extended storage option' and 'adaptive fixing system'. Effectively a bar / belt on runners to stop items sliding around the trunk when it is only part full. It's a cheap option, but does anyone have this and actually find it helpful? Just wondering if in practice it means two rails cut into the carpet for no real purpose.
