2001 4.4i X5 Fuel pump problem

Hi All,

Can anyone in the know help me out here?

I have been having problems with my X5 for the last few days where it has been difficult to start in the mornings- it would fire up after several attempts, turns over just fine. Once it started up it would be fine all day but the the next morning it would do the same. Anyway the EML came on and I got 2 codesl P1159 and P1161. Then yesterday morning it refused to start altogether- it would just turn over.

With the ignition on I could not hear the Fuel pump prime- so I decided to look for the Relay- I found one set of relays in the ECU compartment and one set in the boot area- After doing some digging around, I found that the fuel pump relay would be the green one- I had 2 green ones in the boot area and 2 in the ECU compartment (a few specialists said that it would be behind the glove box but I have no relays in the fuse box area in the glove box) I swapped the green ones over but still nothing- the pump did not prime.

The next thing I did was locate the fuel pump under the seat, I sussed that the blue/white wire from the multiplug was the positive for the pump and put a direct 12v feed to it and still got nothing - thinking the pump was dudd I got a new one. I decided to test the new pump before I fitted it, I put a 12v feed to the +ve terminal and grounded the other terminal but the pump did nothing?????!!!!

I decided to test the Blue/white wire from the multi-plug and see if by turning the ignition on I get a +ve feed through but this came up with nothing also??!!

Can someone please shed some light onto what I am doing wrong?

Does anyone know for sure where/which is the fuel pump relay?

by putting a direct +ve and ground on the fuel pump energise it- is my new pump faulty.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Ray.
