X5 35d
Here are two mods that I did on my X5 35d that made a big difference
1. Eurosuperchip installed at coastline motorsports in woodland hills Cali www.coastlinemotorsport.net. Talk to Jesse 818 222-8881. Added 50 hp and 30lbs of torque. Very noticeable change 2. Sprintbooster- instant throttle response without the turbolag. Got mine from Turner motorsports. |

I would just like to say that stay away form those "piggy box" tuning boxes. They are always one kind of shortcuts to get more power. If you just have a change, take your car to a proper dyno and get it tuned properly or if not possible, just get a ready flash/chip.
At least here in Europe I haven't heard of any good tuning boxes that would take all the important factors into consideration when it comes to adding power. Normally they just give wrong information to ECU and make it give more fuel and boost. |

I get 11 l/100km city and 9 highway in warm months. That's with JBD@100% K&N filter and Shell V-Power diesel.

The JBD looks pretty good, especially for the price. Has anyone had any issues with warranty after adding a chip? Also what difference are you seeing in fuel mileage?

A company in Austria called Steinbauer makes a plug and play module that give great power. It is sold private labeled through many BMW dealers through AC Schnizer. AC Schnizer is a division of one of the largerst BMW dealership groups in the world and according to what my dealer (Calgary BMW in Alberta Canada) tells me all their product is warranty approved by BMW. I have one installed on my 11 X5d and this thing rocks.
They have another item that my wife loves as well. It is called a power pedal. My wife has short legs and she finds the X5 has a lot of "dead pedal" before the power kicks in. The Power Pedal is a little module that plugs into the throttle pedal sensor. Normally when you step on the pedal it sends a signal to the ECM of approx 1 to 4 volts though the the full travel. This device sends the same signal to the ecm with only approx 3/4 pedal travel. It is adjustable as well. Does not give more power but it feels much more responsive because you don't have to push the pedal into the carpet to get full power. |

Some insight on aftermarket tunes
I'm new to the forum but have been lurking for quite some time. I have a lot of experience with software tunes and recent experience suggests that you can reasonably expect a dealer to deny, or at least attempt to deny, warranty work should something fail when you have a tune on your car. Dealers can tell if you have a tune on your car even if you restore it to the stock program, despite what some people claim, by simply checking the flash count on the computer or scanning for artifact codes and indicators. They just compare how many times BMW has flashed or updated the software on your car to how many times the car says and deduce from that that you might have done something. They also tend to flag cars as having tuned drivetrains so that if or when you come in for service the next time, they can potentially blame the tune (and they try to blame all sorts of nonsense on tunes) and give you a hefty bill. Long story short, I wouldn't trust any tuner claims of warranty-approved chip tunes without explicitly and independently verifying them with your dealer. I could be wrong but this has been my experience with various tuners and manufacturers. Think about it, why would a dealer want to foot the bill for something if they suspect someone monkeyed with the settings of the car? The auto service industry has gotten quite sophisticated lately so just keep all this in mind when considering a tune.
For me personally, I try to hold off on tuning until the factory warranty has run out. I am by no means saying these tunes are sketchy (although some are) but more so that the dealers will screw you if given the opportunity. Similar to how they rarely repair parts anymore and instead replace parts one by one, thereby increasing service costs, i.e., dealer service profits. Anyway, just my 2 cents. I am hoping to pick up a X5d here shortly and am watching for tunes available for that platform so keep up the discussion. |

ECUprogram in Calgary did my tune and it's nuts, I have left the tune in and had warranty work a few times the only time they said anything was they took it for test drive and said it was the fastest diesel they had ever drove I have heard horror stories of tunes being "warranty approved" until something goes wrong. Then the finger pointing and blame starts and you're stuck in the middle with the bill. You're rolling the dice anyway you look at it but from my experience they could tell my tune was there until they drove it.
