Hitch recommendations
Hello
looking to buy a class 3 hitch for my x5 e70 just wondering if one is better over another. I have come across hitches on Amazon for about 130.00. I am mostly going to use the hitch for my bike rack but once in a while pull my 6x10 trailer with my atv on it about total weight of just under 2k lbs. |

If you don't mind a big cut to the bumper and visible hitch you'll be good with oem or curt. Otherwise look for execuhitch or equivalent.

If your actually going to tow a trailer, you’ll also want the oem trailer wiring harness to add a 7 pin trailer connector and have someone code the car for towing.
The oem hitch is fine as well for towing. You want a receiver style hitch for bike racks and towing. Execuhitch is out of business. Try stealth hitches. Personally I’m not a big fan of the hidden hitches for towing. They don’t seem durable and make using sway control not possible. |

I'm thinking about this. Haven't pulled the trigger yet.

I just installed a hitch on my newly-acquired 35d and I could not find an OEM hitch available anywhere. As a second choice, I went with a Draw-Tite hitch, which I favored over the Curt.
The OEM requires the biggest cut to your bumper cover, but the advantage is that it also has the least amount of "drop" built in. More drop means more leverage on the welds (making it potentially weaker), and it means your receiver tube is closer to the ground. The Curt is the lowest (most drop), so I went with the Draw-Tite as the next best option. It requires cutting only in the very bottom part of the bumper cover that really isn't visible. I pull a heavy camper regularly, so towing proficiency/strength was my main concern. I also have a bike rack on there pretty much 100% of the time when not towing, and Curt requires you to use a tether strap with their hitch. Draw-Tite and OEM do not. AM. |
