After Market Rear Entertainment System

Any recommendations on a good after market rear entertainment system? This would be for the wife's X5.

Invision makes the BMW dual screen aftermarket unit, I also just saw a post of some BMW seat mounts for Ipad's also, which is a cheaper options even with 2 base ipads.

The one issue is if you have the active headrests, you need a unit that will mount to the back of the seat instead of replace the headrest.

iPad. We almost did the rear seat entertainment on ours, but realized that with 2 iPads in the house, it was rather useless. I'm making a little holder out of the Apple iPad case that hangs it from the rear headrest. Works great, better picture, screen in a better location, and we can use the iPad for more than just movies. Save the dough, get the iPad!

If you don't actually have a case yet, there is a company that makes one that hangs from the headrest - Apple actually sells it online in their store.

Interesting...how would you watch movies on it - would have to be preloaded through iTunes? Not a bad idea actually.

Already have the case sitting on a shelf collecting dust. I ordered it with the iPad, when it was the only option out there (pre-ordered the iPads). I've since moved to better cases, and have the original apple cases sitting around. It's pretty easy to rivit velcro straps to the case, and use them to velcro around the headrest. Then I'll run power up through the seat and connect the iPads for charging.

Yep, load through iTunes. We have 2 of the 64 GB iPads, one WiFi one 3g. They hold a ton of movies.

is it possible to preload content from netflix before traveling so instead of streaming live you stream down ahead of time and then watch from the hard drive? Also, how is the sound? I know on my ipad the voulme is pretty good but probably not as good (can't raise it as much) as in an integrated unit.

In any event, sounds like something definitely to consider, given that it costs $2K to have a rear entertainment in a bmw.
