Stumped

I have a 2011 X5, model E70 X Series 50I XDRIVE. I am having an issue with the climate control, specifically on the drivers side, when I put the air conditioning on, if the vents are set to the floor it only blows out HOT air, if I put it on dash vents it blows mostly cold, but you can still feel heat blowing out. If I put it it on both floor and dash vents, the floor blows out hot air and the dash blows out cool air (not cold). The passenger side works just fine as does the back seat.

Note that the temperature is set to 60.

Any idea where to begin looking to see why it is doing this?

Thanks in advance for your assistance

Probably a bad heater control valve or a motor on a stuck mixer flap. You should be able to scan and see the code pop up for it.

I looked for any codes and there are none and I just replaced the blower motor about 13 months ago (it was doing it before I replaced the motor). Is the mixer flap easy to access?

Ha, I edited and added in the heater control valve! Actually probably that.

But mixer flaps all have little motors that open/close them as well.

Heater control valve = easy.

Mixer flap motors = not easy.

So stupid question, if it was the heater control valve would it not affect the whole systems and not just the drivers side?

That's exactly what the valve does... it lets each side have different settings. I think that's what your issue is!

Sounds like it! Flapper malfunction will throw a code BTW, so if you're not getting one, leans toward the valve. Looks to be an inexpensive and quick fix!

When changing air flow from feet to face, there is a dial on that screen where you can select temperature if the air.
Do you have it set to blue(cold)?
