3 child seats in X5. Is it possible?

Got child no.3 on the way - so I'm going to need to fit 2 forward facing child seats, and 1 rear facing child seat in my 2009 3 series (I know - my chances are looking pretty grim).

So I'm hoping the configuration will be:
1) 4 yr old forward facing on a booster
2) 19mth old forward facing on a child seat
3) newborn rear facing in child seat.

Before I make the move to an X5 - am I going to face same space issues? I'm particularly interested in anybody who has had similiar experience. Does anybody know if this is even possible in an X5?

Hi, I have managed to get 3 in across the back. It's a squeeze but possible. My kids are 6, 4 and 18 months. I had 2 of the safe n sound forward facing seats on the outside. With the bub, she was rear facing in the middle.

With what your talking about with the booster it should be no worries. If your really worried, take the car for an overnight test drive and try the set up. We did when my Mrs recently got new car. Lexus RX. She can also fit 3 across the back.

Good Luck!

My wife had our three in her x5. We're 1,3,&5 (complete gong show). We had to buy special narrow seats for it to work with a reg sized baby seat facing backwards. Then the problem was they (kids) were all touching each other, and soon the gong show gets out of hand.

I ended up just buying my wife a new Durango wih the walk thru and third row.

Loved the x5 so much, had to keep it.

The seat belts were difficult to latch too if I recall. But bottom line, can be done but is difficult.

Must admit the rear seats in the E70 X5 isn't that spacious for even with 1 x Safe n Sound Meridan carseat. Our 2nd one is due at the end of next month, it'll be even tighter.

Our daughter is turning 4, so we'll be replacing her seat with a booster seat and the newborn will be sitting forward facing whilst my Mrs will have to squeeze in the back if she wants to look after them whilst driving

Thank you for the responses so far. Does anybody know if the 7 seater X5 can accomodate a booster seat in the 3rd row? Are there anchor points for the 3rd row?

We were able to get 2 boosters and a front facing car seat across the back seat with a '06 X5 (was very tight but doable). We are now in the friends need to be carted around with us phase (we have 8 and 6). We recently upgraded to a '10 X5 with the fold down third row, now we can get two boosters in the back seat with room to spare so no touching and the older ones go in the 3rd row (we have neighbors with 2 the same age). Works like a charm around town. As for trips, seems the 3 kids should work with only one in the third row (the 3rd row folds independently) so we don't lose all the trunk space. YMMV.

You can easily put a booster seat in the 3rd row -- no need for 'latch' as booster seats don't use them anyways.

I highly recommend the Diono Radian line of car seats. They are built as sturdy as the X5 using a steel alloy frame, and have a narrow profile.

Checkout the three in a row picture in the Amazon link.

They are not cheap, and relatively speaking quite heavy, but car seat is rated up to 100 lbs, and I think they have models that can go even higher.
