I don't know it's the best but 10W60 Castrol Motorsport Synthetic Motor Oil is what BMW recommending and it seems everyone is using it without arguing in E9X M3 side.

I used 10w60 religiously on my E92 M3....but the S65 and the S63 are two completely different engines with completely different torque bands and completely different characteristics. Turbo'd cars don't use the same oil as a high revving engine, so 10w60 is completely out of the question, based on my knowledge of engines.

I'm not any expert on the oils but 2 different dealers (McKenna and Irvine BMW) that X5M uses same engine oil as E9XM3s. (And I used my M3 oils to top off the engine before)

And funny things is my X5M owner's manual only shows regular X5/6 engine oil info, not X5/6M oil info.

If I shouldn't use the M3 oil, I like to know too.

If you read all the responses in Orange Fever's post above, there are members claiming both 10w60 and 10w30 in their X5M after dealer service. From what I gather from that particular thread is that M3 and M5 uses W60 for higher rev engines while the S63 engine uses 10w30. I'm not 100% sure who to believe but I do know that my X5M have been fed on castrol 10w30 for quite some time.
