Call assist.

It is the email address and cell number assist has on file. Call them if you are not sure what they have.

Funny thing is, if I know your email address and cell number I can send info to you car without authorization. Talk about a security issue.

You want to post yours?

I have some interesting ideas of what directions I could send to your car ...

Wait until BMW comes out with connected drive where you configure the car via a desktop app and download over the air.

This will be ripe for hacking. And of course, along comes the viruses.

Then along comes the forum questions.

What kind of A/V do you run in your BMW?

The stealer wants $480 to disinfect my car.

My home computer crashed and now my car won't start.

My Windows XP computer corrupted my Idrive profile and now my car stereo only plays show tunes.

From what I read you have to accept or decline, Maybe those that have used this feature can weigh in.

I used mine in my X6 5.0i yesterday...really neat...you simply set up your account with BMW Assist, and give them your email address...use the same email address on googlemaps.com, and go to "send" then "car" and it will show up in your car...to get it, go to "Communication" on iDrive, then BMW Assist, then My Info...it will be there, and easy to add the address to your Nav address book...I love this feature.

Ok that allowed me to send it but I don't have a "My info" under bmw assist just "start service".

Have you already set up your BMW Assist account? Have you pressed the SOS button and spoken to them? Perhaps that has to happen first...

dmlgc,

When you picked up your vehicle didn't the dealer walk you thru the setup for assist? My dealer had me fill out the details on their computer online for assist and then when we got in the vehicle the first time we called Sirius at activated the satellite radio.

I have used the google maps 4 times already and it is awesome! In my opinion, it is one of the only ways I will use the navigation because BMW navigations are probably one of the worst I have ever used. I have used Lexus and Acura and they are so much better. BMW is really lacking the fact that you cannot search by name. For example, if I know I am looking for a Bank of America, you cannot type in Bank of America and then it brings up the closest Bank of America. You can search by bank or or predetermined categories and it brings up all of the ones within a search radius. Not as user friendly and you really need a physical address for it to be functional. Once you have a physical address it works great and it really cool if you have HUD as well.

Neither do I. All X6's made in 04/08 or later are suppose to. I was waiting to take it to the dealer. I figured since it came out around the time my car was built maybe the dealer has to enable it or update iDrive.

It is no big deal to me.

Now if I could send the address from my phone to my Nav via bluetooth, that would rock!

Yeah, it be cool if you could pre-plan your trip on the iphone 3G's google map feature and then send that to your X6....

I had the same issue because I assumed the email address I put in 'My info' was also logged in my BMW Assist settings - then could not understand why the email to the car kept failing. Turns out that BMW's systems are not actually connected (funny given how the cars sell on technology!!!) - once I called BMW Assist (via SOS button) and logged my email address with them directly it worked fine. Great feature by the way..... as per Shenard's comment, makes life much easier than trying to do directly via iDrive!

Cheers, Anteater.

Cheers, Anteater.
When I went throught the walk through with product specialist part of that included pushing the sos button talking with the operator, changing my password and giving her an email account. This is the same email account I am using for the "send to car".

Car has to go in Wednesday to get paint/chip protection guess I can ask them about it then.

Angry

Just talked to BMW Assist and was told that it only works for business addresses, not residential!

Don't know what to say. Mine works fine. I would go into the dealer and ask them to walk you thru it and to send an address from their computer to your car.

DMLGC - issue may be that you need to subscribe to the 'convenience package' for the download feature to work. If you don't have a subscription google maps will confirm sending but it will be rejected by the BMW Assist account.

So all you folks that have been successful with this , do you have 'convenience package' ?

I assume this is some extra service I sign up for.
