Finally decided on a tune - AA

After 5+ years with the truck i finally decided to get a tune. The car always felt it had enough power with the DP's so i never really bothered until we had a new born.

I had to get rid of the cold start as its really aggressive with downpipes & exhaust.

Called all the usual suspects and basically waited for AA to release their tune with cold start delete and get the simon 3's from back order. Actually ended up trying the tune w/out cold start delete and definitely noticed the surge in power above 2500 . It also helped regain the significant loss of low end torque after my exhaust .

After working with Nic @ AA we finally got the cold start delete sorted out . The truck now starts and revs to around 1200~1300 then settles down @ 800 then to 600~700ish @ idle.

Regarding the tune with simon 3, the download of the original code from the ecu took a solid hour but to flash the ecu was about 10 min or less.

Also after the tune make sure you have an obd reader to clear out a CEL code.

Overall I recommended the tune both for power & smoothness.

Also the guys @ AA are great. Thanks Viral & Nic

I was told due to a number of factors including oil flow to the turbos cold start delete is not recommended. I was hoping to get rid of the cold start as well bc its very obnoxious.

I've seen cold start in modern Fxx bmw affect its start up and cranking up.
I would not get cold start delete unless you know its been tested in your climate for a few thousand miles.
Or at least having the option to turn on/off on your end

I've been running cold start delete for the last year thru frigid winters and hot summers, no issues to report.

I liked the cold start as well just not my neighbors or the newborn lol

so I know it's diff but on my e92 m3 had the cold start for 60k miles . on the truck I'll prob keep it on for a year or less while the new born adjust. plus with the new born I end up warming up the car to run the Ac on for a few minutes anyways.

I'll keep an eye out and report back if I run into issues but all the major tuners are offering this.

Congrats on the tune! How is it performance wise? Do they disclose your boost targets?

performance wise it did smooth things out a bit. aa didn't share much performance data other than what's on their site.

I have a full Akra system and just "bypass" the cold start period by immediately shifting into reverse and back to neutral once the engine starts, (foot on the brake prevents any movement). This takes the management software out of cold start mode and into high idle.

Just my .02.

Interesting I'm going to give this a try
