Megan Exhaust doesnt fit x50i

Hello all,

I am new to the forum I just picked up a 2012 X5 50i M Sport, I have already installed the DINAN stage 2 flash and just recently ordered the Megan Racing exhaust. Unfortunately the Megan does not work/fit for the X5. The exhaust arrived and I went to my installer to have it put on, when we put the car on the lift we noticed that the vehicle has 2 pipes coming all the way back to the muffler for the exhaust, then we glance at the exhaust system and noticed that it is made for only single pipe like the 6 cylinder models. Needless to say my installer contacted Megan took pictures and addressed the issue, they then said that they dont have one that will fit the 50i. : thumbdown

I will be dropping of the vehicle next Friday to get a custom mandrel bend exhaust, downpipe back. Should be done by Monday, I will post videos with the beast completed.

Regards,

Eddie

The Megan Racing exhaust was made for the X5M, it was never meant to fit a 50i

However someone on here did chop off the piping and made it fit his 50i, search around you'll find it.

Well sorry that the Megan didn't work out.

Looking forward to the pics., try to get some while its still on the rack.

I'm sure any reputable muffler shop could fabricate an adapter. I intend putting one of these on my X in future, and mines a diesel!

I have considered it alot, but I cannot seem to justify giving up a few thousand dollars for that thing. I put a full Termi System on my 2013 Ducati 1199 which was around $3000 which seemed appropriate because it is a superbike and a full system. Even my Cayenne Turbo exhaust cost me less, $2600 (Tubi Style Exhaust) and thats a really hyped up system. I just think it is WAY overpriced and I refuse to spend the money, lol.

It was ordered for the 50i they "HAD" the option on their website, they still have the V6 exhaust available for the X5 now, its a single entry dual exit. (Which is the same thing I received.)

The intricacy is that the underside of the vehicle looks like this:

I guess I could just order the X5M exhaust and the hack off the tips and relocate them. That sounds like a good idea.

Did the exhaust and stage 3, or intercoolers and stage 4 make a noticeable improvement?

Are you keeping your stock exhaust, or chopping it up?

I don't have experience with the Megan exhaust on the X5, but many of the reviews for the E92/E90 M3 said it was drone city...so it might be smart to keep your stock parts just in case you want to switch back.

I ran stage 3 for couple weeks till intercoolers came in. But s3 going to s4 is 20hp gain "dinan claims" with flash. But i can tell you that when it was 90+ weather in the summer the car responded very well i did notice that when i was on the highway. And these cars run better right now with the waether in the low teens lol. Dinan Intercoolers are great for high climate weather

Thank you.

In that case I will keep the stock exhaust. I plan on doing a custom exhaust downpipe back along with a custom x-pipe, all mandrel bent. I haven't seen anyone yet with that setup, hopefully it will sound good. Inevitably a couple weeks after i finish that then i will get the active autowerks downpipes.

Thats good, I'm still pushing tank tops and flip flop here in sunny south Florida, lol.

I did a section 3 delete on my 50i. No mufflers, just pipe to single 3" black tips. It was a bit loud and had a bit of drone. Then I had my mechanic do a custom H just past the resonators. I am absolutely thrilled with the final result. To put it into perspective, I came out of an E60 M5 with an Eisenmann Race that was absolute heaven but a little loud and obnoxious at times. This setup is perfect, is very civil with a nice deep rumble at cruising speed and sounds awesome at WOT.

Anyone know where I can find the post about the custom exhaust modification in order for it to fit the 50i? Thanks

Very intrigued. can you post a picture of the underside of the car?

A sound clip would be great if you could pull it off?

I don't have a picture from under the car. We cut the exhaust just ahead of the stock muffler and then bent some 2.5" galvanized steel pipe to make it over to the opening. We then added 3 or 3.5" tips (I don't remember the exact dimensions) and painted it all black. It was a touch to loud at this point. We then welded in a crossover right after the resonators.
