Why does it say 5.0 when its a 4.4

Giys and girls maybe its a stupid question but why does it say 5.0 if its really a 4.4 liter engine

Just so you have more brain tease:
335i, 535i are not 3.5L
328i, 528i are not 2.8L

Tour guide at the BMW museum in Munich was saying that the model name is the displacement of the engine. I was like, excuse me... He was quite knowledgeable about historical vehicles.

Exactly - 12+ years ago that was the case but not anymore. A 328 was a 3 series with a 2.8 liter I6.

Today, you have a 535i and 740i - same exact engine, but 740 sounds more upscale than 735....

It's marketing.

Although I've heard at some point something to the effect of the turbo motors making similar power to higher displacement NA motors (tends to be true) hence the higher series model numbers for lower displacement engined vehicles (not sure if true or as above, just marketing).

It's because of turbo.

Turbo = 0.5-0.8

X5 4.4i = 4.4i + no turbo
X6 5.0 = 4.4 + turbo
320i = 2.0 + no turbo
328i = 2.0 + turbo

The 35i is only a 3 litre.. sounds like a marketing thing to me.. My X5 4.4 is actually a 4.4l... My X6 50i is also a 4.4l....

If they confuse you enough you won't question the $$ you pay for the car in the first place! It apparently worked on me
