voice command
Voice activated functions on idrive does not recognize the way i speak 50 % of the time. kind of useless.
BMW should get voice recognition program, so the driver can speak vowels & consonants into the system, so idrive can distinguish drivers' voice command much better. very much like Star Trek's ship's computer! |

I would comment on your Canadian accent but it's wrong a lot for me to and I am from the west coast. I am learning to speak BMWan. My key was to wait long enough to begin then speak slowly. Good luck!

my problem with speech recognition is it's low , so I'm always saying the word before it beeps, they it catches the last half and doesn't understand. In general BMW needs to do a project to seriously update their electronics. I understand the "new" idrive has a hard drive , not what I would call cutting edge. To me everything about the idrive is slow, the whole "wait for the backup camera to come to life" is just stupid.

This car is good for me. It is teaching me patience. I don't start and then back up quickly anymore and I speak slower and only when prompted.

I don't know to me it's unnatural for me to be reacting to the car and doing things on its time rather it reacting to me and doing things on my time.

an initial voice command can be a shortcut into an idrive menu - like the trip computer or adjusting route preferences - that otherwise takes a few clicks and rotates, making the car more responsive to you, if your elocution is up to the challenge. Just say "trip computer" or "route preferences". (now that I've written that, I hope I can remember to actually do it! Its hard to learn new tricks)

Now I see the problem. I went out and tried voice commands and its a hit and miss thing. I did get to "route preferences" which I change back and forth on trips to achieve the route I want but "trip computer" was an adventure. The closest hit was to the "onboard info" screen but the outcome had a strong random component. Does the mechanism train to your voice or is this as good as it gets?
