11.4 litres for 100km, is approx. 3 gallons U.S. to drive 62 miles.
That is only about 20 MPG. The diesel is rated 28 highway. Is most of you driving city?

I own a 3.0d with a chip that makes 300Hp's and a K&N filter, the car does 28kms per gallon (17.5 miles p/gallon) on the city driving it spirited when I can, and if go out of tow, it goes over 45 Kms per gallon (28 miles per gallon)
These diesel engines are great on torque, HP and economy ! The 35d since it is a bigger engine and has twin turbos must be a beauty to drive ? |

Having twin turbos probably will "drink" more diesel.....in Costa Rica due to the poor diesel we have, there is no way to buy the 35d, the factory does not ship it because of the microparticular filter, it will not start at all !! believe me

I find the consumption varies more with driving style than any other car I've owned - I'm getting between 25mpg and 35mpg on a run (UK gallon sizes - us mpg equiv 21mpg/29mpg). The big difference is sport vs non-sport - a relatively constant speed at low revs in a high gear really drops the consumption down.

Driving in S mode manual vs automatic
Quote:
I drive my car in S mode and manual all day every day, I found that making the manual gear changes at low RPMs ( between 3000-3800) gives you great mileage per gallon even driving hard. ( short-shifting in racing terms) I also found that my engine torque peak must be around 3800 RPMs, the car feels great when I shift no higher than that. Im totally positive that there is no need to rev the engine over 38000 RPMs Now, if I use the car in S mode but let him change totally automatic, the car revs too much and sometimes you feel like changing gears before the car does, I think factory S mode in full automatic ( no manual changing) is a Diesel eater..... Im sure that if I made a race ( 1/2 mile ) between the same car, 1 driven in automatic S mode and the other in manual S mode, the manual one will win the short race easily. All this is about a 30d engine |

I hear what you're saying and it makes sense - I just dislike the push/pull paddle thing too much to actually use it even though I'm a dyed in the wool paddle shifter on other cars. In normal D the car feels like it's driving in treacle to me, S makes it feel like it has the power it does, but you aint kidding about it being a diesel eater in that mode. My overall average right now is 27.7 mpg UK (23.06 mpg US) which is due to mostly driving in S on fast twisty roads with lots of speed changes.

I see it like this, driving on any automatic mode has been always more gas-eater than driving manual, simple as that.
I agree with you, I don't like the paddles so much, Im a former owner of an M3 with SMG trans and I got used to a stick, and left paddle for downshifting right for upshifting, on the X6 I use the stick 90% of the time, it gives me a psicological feeling of a manual stick in some way, but let me tell you that the automatic transmission of the X6 is SUPERB ! never drove an auto-trans so close to sequential, Im thrilled about how this transmission responds ! |

I drive a X6 35d with a P-Tronic box and my consumption after 38000km is 11 l/km
Half of the kilometres is in the city and the other half highway. I donīt floor it too much in the city and on the highway I travel between 120-160 km/h |

80 Litres on the 35d gives me approx 3.5 weeks normal driving in Central London on auto but 2 weeks ++ when driving around looking for a parking space + that odd trip to Heathrow. I switch to manual on the motorway...better comsumption. But overall, quite pleased with the consumption! Can't wait to get it exported & drive it back home! Cheap diesel and worrying about Ģ1.06 per litre would be a thing of the past!
