Question X6 with new 306HP 600NM Diesel !!

Hi Guys,

I am ready to buy a brand new X6. And since i am in europe its going to be a diesel. Now i currently own a 535d with the 286HP engine.

And i would be very very dissappointed if I bought the X6 and then few months after, they released it with the new and improved 306HP \ 600NM Diesel engine!!

Does anyone have any idea when this engine will be released for the X6?

It is already available for the 7 series as a 740d.

i would really really love to hear your responses. Should I wait? Does anyone have any inside info on the release of this engine into the X6?

Hi. The hybrid is not as fuel efficient as the diesel, unfortunately. And the purchase price of the Hybrid is much much higher.

So its still diesel for me. And I am still wondering when the 306HP diesel is coming out.

Few months ago here was a rumor that new engine will be only with 5% more power and that will be 299hp! so 286 or 299 or 306 am not sure will you feel any difference at all.

Deda, we already know that the engine is producing 306HP. And this is 20HP more than the current. But more importantly it is 40NM of torque more than the current. the engine is also more responsive.

Thus based on this, believe me, you will notice the difference!!

The next important thing is that if you are interested in tuning, this offers a good basis to tune it to close to 400HP

seems inevitable given the popularity of the 35d in the x6 that they'll drop the 40d into it around the mid-point of it's model life. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't have it in the range by the end of next year.

as for whether the wait is worth it - that's a personal call. you could get the 35d now and tune it eg 350bhp from evolve:

I don't think the big difference will be the 13hp or 20hp. The big difference will be that it will be the new generation common rail diesel technology which most importantly reduces the vibration you feel inside. Take the 330d with 245hp as an example, only 14hp more than the predecessor but nearly as quiet as a petrol engine!!!

I don't have any inside info but I'm a Diesel owner so I know you can get easily to that power installing a chip.
I do own a 2009 X6 30d and have installed the chip since day 1, my engine is developing almost 300Hp and 600Nm, now imagen a 35d........so if you are looking for extra power, for less than 300 Euro you can get it, it is a matter of pure electronic engine re-programming.
BMW does not deliver the 35d engine for Costa Rica since our Diesel quality is very poor and the microparticulate filter will not let the engine run.
This people makes my engine go to 306 Hp

This are other people who makes great chips too, a little more expensive

Well i drove 30d and 35d and there is 50hp difference but not so much in driving expirience..so those 20 hp is nothing for me..and am not interested in tuning...from mine piont of wiev 286 is enough...and if i need more power than i will go for 50i or M...
But here is another thing that makes me crazy...who the hell are we to tune BMW engines...dont get me wrong, but i will never do something like that.

when they decide on a final state of tune, bmw has a basket of considerations that extend beyond just power eg fuel consumption, emissions etc. bmw's final compromise may not be the best configuration for the actual individual owner. think jack of all trades, master of none.

it's a fallacy to assume that bmw must have the "best" tune just because they're bmw.

I always tune my diesel cars. So I am actually comparing a TUNED 35d 286HP to a TUNED 35d 306HP.

Since it is a new generation engine, it will also fetch more money when I want to re-sell it later on.

I am thinking that BMW is just trying to finish all the old stock of 286hp engines and once that is finished they will begin putting the new engine into the X6.

what do u think?

I'm new to BMW diesel engines, but I know the 30d engine of my X6 is not new, has been used for a while on the X5, so I think same as you, they will get rid of the old engines and they must be working on the new one's + 1

I found this online:

http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/09/s...include-power/

"So it may come as a little surprise that BMW is reportedly preparing to launch an M Sport package for the X6 that also includes some power upgrades.

According to reports, the oil-burning X6 xDrive35d with the M Sport package will get a boost of 20 horsepower to 306 courtesy of the recently launched 740d's powerplant, while the twin-turbo xDrive50i will increase output by 42 horsepower over stock. Of course, there will also be a special body kit and bigger 20-inch wheels along with the requisite badging of the X6 M Sport package, all of which gives those who want a little extra sport in their ute but aren't interested in the full-on X6 M a solid choice in between. Expect the package to hit the market later this year. "

That means its still planned for this year. And not just the engine upgrade, but also a new M-sport Package. Very nice!

Now I want an exact date!

I am going crazy! Why is BMW still producing and releasing the X6 35d with the old 286hp engine when a new 306hp engine exists in the 7 series ?? The X6 is also a high end car, they should have released it by now! Or are they waiting till the new 5 series is released?
ridiculous.

Thanks for the info. I hope you are wrong, but I think u are indeed on to something. In europe, 70% of the cars are diesel, so I would hope that this would be a big enough reason for them to make the change sooner. At least for the cost benefit due to the high volume, it may be worth their while to change early. Its a real dilema for me because I will be selling my car soon, and then I will have to wait and wait,.....
