What's this worth?

Private Party Sale:

2012 X5 xDrive35i Premium - $40k asking
Silver, Black leather
17k miles, Manufacture Warranty until December 2015, Wheel/Tire Warranty
Convenience, Cold Weather, Adaptive Drive, Premium Audio, Running Boards, BMW Apps, Bluetooth, Nav, Tint, Clear Bra

I really wanted the technology package, but I think the adaptive drive and low miles might make up for it.

Any insight is appreciated!

Ha! The silver is actually growing on me. Our ideal colors would be Alpine White or Black Sapphire Metallic. But after owning cars that are those two colors, I think I would appreciate the lower maintenance of the silver paint.

Am I the only one who thinks the OP can go a lot lower than $40K? I just had a quick look online and am seeing 2012 35i models with 31K miles go for $33K all day long. Didn't exactly have a look at all the options, but I would not focus on the fact that it has 17K miles. Your clock is still ticking when it comes to the age of the vehicle, as in, the warranty will run out whether it has 17K miles or 37K miles because you will hit the 48 month mark at some point.

Do you want to keep it beyond when the factory warranty expires? How many miles do you drive a day? A week? A month? Are you looking at purchasing an extended BMW warranty?

With a budget of $40K, you should be able to find an X5 35d (yes, diesel) with the sport package and technology package on top of what you currently want. And not in silver

We are planning on keeping this car for a while (hopefully greater than 5 years). We drive on average 15,000 miles a year.

Extended warranty will probably depend on how I feel about the car right before the original warranty is up.

We are also looking at X5Ds, but this car just popped up and the adaptive drive caught my eye. I haven't found any X5s locally that have this option. Seems like a very rare, but highly desired option.

Just checked Manheim auto action results for OP. In the last week 14 2012 X535i Premium's crossed the block nationally. Additional optional equipment is not listed. Here are the results average: Above average condition, $44146.00 with average miles of 17934. Average condition, $37558.00 with average miles of 35867. Below average condition, $30970.00 with average miles of 53801.
Some hammer prices of note from last week: $40500.00 with 14860 miles. $40000.00 with 13640 miles. $39400.00 with 29485 miles. So I would say the X5 your looking is in the wholesale price range which is where you want to try to buy at.

Sure, Adaptive Drive is a nice option but would I trade it for all the other goodies my X5 came with? No way. I would look past it and find an X5 with some more common creature comforts.

Great deal. It's depressing watching our cars value drop $10k+ per year. =(
