My X5M is about 500km/tank. About 12-14L/100km with a mix of city and hi way driving.

If you're even asking about gas consumption, you should probably just get the diesel.

50i = 4.4L N63 twin turbo. Same engine that is in the current 550i, 650i, 750i etc. Gas mileage sucks but it is so much fun. Speaking of which Sylvan, how the hell do you get 15L/100km out of an X5M? I'm getting about 13 mpg which is 18L/100km. Driving like a complete grandpa too.

I literally just went to my garage and took these pictures (before I parked it I did a couple launches with launch control so it's a little higher consumption than usual) ...I have had others find my mileage "optimistic". I usually rip on the hi way 125-140km/hr other wise I would say my mostly hi way mileage really helps, my freeway driving is 100-110km/hr I do get stop and go rush hour traffic everyday but my door to door 30km trip takes about 30-35min so nothing brutal as far as traffic is concerned.

My commute is 7 miles each way mostly stop light to stoplight.
I did get about 18mpg on a 300 mile round trip highway drive doing 70-80mph so I think the car is fine. It's my short commute.

The V8 engine seems good, so the 50i and the X5/6M have the same consommation? If its just a lil bit difference, should we take the X5/6M?

It's the same 4.4L engine, the M has different manifolds and turbos. I would drive both and decide I doubt the fuel mileage is too different.

with X5M i get about 11-12 driving the same I would suggest you drive both and see what better fits your needs, for me to blindly suggest the M because I think its better doesn't seem logical. I think both vehicles are great, and whatever choice you make you will be satisfied. |

Why didn't you buy the X6//M? Do you prefere the X5 model than the X6 model? For me, I don't know if I should get the X5//M ou X6//M, both looks good!

If money is no object just get the M, however based on your concern for gas mileage it seems that is not the case.
Also, please realize that if you get your GF the X5M or X6M she will walk all over your S4. Heck, the 50i would probably even take it down. Just something to keep in mind.

1) The x5M I found had a bunch of shit in it because it belonged to the GM for a couple dealerships down here, so he put some cool stuff in it (black rims, alcantara wheel, better sound system, etc) 2) after having the x6, 3 things bothered me. first was no 3 back seat, i enjoy driving people around when we do stuff mostly because i trust my driving, so it was a hassle with that, and i got pulled over for putting 3 in the back a few times. second there is no back windshield wiper, which sucked during rain, and 3rd the rear visibility compared to x5 is no match. That being said, I love the way the x6 looks, and the rear visibility you can get used to. There is an option for 3 back seats, but i hear its not great. The only other complaint i had is that i would hit my head getting in the car, which, *knock on wood* has not happened at all in the x5. I think the x5 is just more practical. But again, it comes down to needs and cost benefit analysis. The M I got had a bunch of stuff, and I got a good price based on what KBB and edmunds/ local recent sales had them going for, and my x6 was out of warranty so i was trying to get rid of it asap, and everything just fell in place. I was also seriously considering panamera, so you can see the rear visibility thing isn't a big deal, as that has just as shit rear visibility. I think the x5m, combines practicality and performance the best out of the speedy sub's, less turbo s, as i have not driven one. |

Get the diesel for sure. 900-1000km from a tank on the 40d, more on the 30d. Plenty of poke too from the 40d. Or depending on how deep your pockets get the 50d.
