In the NAV, if you make a slight mistake selecting the Street name(e.g. Moreland Road instead of Moreland Avenue) it makes you go all the way back and spell the entire street name again. Should have an edit feature or just take you back to your last entry and let you delete letters.

But not nearly as convenient in the middle of a road trip.
There are a plethora of great nav technologies out there. BMW can do it if the will is there.

Ive tried the google part of the nav but always go connection problems??
I hate how u can see the electrical mess by the seatbelt. It's a pretty bad sight on a 100k car
Hmmm, I'll think of more and add to this list.

I have an X5M and the only thing I dislike is when the armrest in the rear seats is up the car loses a bit of rear visibility. But the rear-view cameras make up for the problem!

I have a 2011 with the N55, 8 spd auto - number one complaint, hands down....

Throttle tip in - doesn't matter if it's in D, DS or M; there's too much lag recognizing throttle; feel like I'm launching off the line by the time dumb thing recognizes the throttle

That's a shame. I thought the 8sp was suppose to be a big improvement over the 6sp.

Turbo lag might be the issue on N55.

I have the 2011 X5M. Minor gripes below:

1) The tail lights should have been full LEDs (the turn signals on the tail lights are NOT). This used to be full LED in my previous FX 45.
2) You cannot move music from IPOD to Hard Drive directly.
3) No touch screen NAV ***** BIG MINUS *****
4) Should have been LED angel eye on 2011 onwards on M and they missed that one.
5) Lacks some useful options on NAV menus found in cheaper units you can buy from Garmin etc
6) No bluetooth streaming on 2011. Should have been there. Looks like they are correcting this for 2012 models.
7) The glove compartment wastes lot of space with no real space inside. BMW should learn a thing or two from Honda/Toyota
8) The real passenger cup holders are on the arm rest. This is useless, when you have a baby seat in the middle. No cup holders at that point for anyone sitting in the back.
9) Do not like the DVD option design in the back.

It is just me or is the glass on the X5 really soft? I've already had one rock chip fixed and I see so many other small little pits in the windshield already.

That is a major disappointment. Outside of the crummy nav, throttle tip in is a major downer on my '09 4.8 I also thought this was corrected with the 8 sp. My lease is up in 10 months and I was going to get another X5 thinking this was fixed. Might need to look at a Cayenne.

8 spd

The delayed throttle seems to be caused more by the 8 speed than anything else. I had it on my 2011 528i.....hence the reason I traded for a 2010 X5 with 6 speed. Just doesn't seem like BMW has the software for the throttle with 8 speed optimized yet unless you get an M model.

Here's something minor but it's all the more annoying because there's no reason I can see for not getting it right: You walk away from the car in a parking lot and suddenly can't remember if you locked it. Point the remote toward the car and push the button. Nothing happens. Was that because the car was already locked, or because you were out of range? On most other cars I know, relocking will produce a beep, a honk, or at least a flash of the lights. On the X5, you have to unlock and relock to get some kind of confirmation. (Yes, I know about the flash-to-confirm setting; that only seems to flash the lights the first time you lock the car.)

Love pretty much everything but the driver seat squeaks in my wifes 09. It drives me nuts and I hear it's a problem on other x5's also. Anyone know how to fix it.

Had awful squeaks develop in both front seats (comfort seats) in our 2008 X5. They had been fine up until a month or so ago. but recently if we switched drivers and adjusted the seats, then it sounded like something in the general lower rear of the seats needed lubrication. Called by our dealer, and they fixed it in under an hour by removing the trim and shaving a little off the area that was rubbing. We had been worried it might have been a big issue, but were surprised how quickly our dealer was able to resolve the issue. Thanks to Autobahn in Ft. Worth for job well done. Swiftly and with style!!!

In terms of dislikes,
1. Regret not getting the 4.8 as the 3.0 lacks "get up and go". Came from a V8 Range Rover Sport, and now we also have the new X3 35i which is a flier.
2. The delay in the back up camera coming to life, and the fact that it is still on for way too long after switching to forward mode.
3. Wish it has the knee/leg rests for the drivers right and passengers left, as in the X5M and X6.

Thank you for the advice on the seat squeak. I have spent an hour or more on this and can't fix it. I will take it in and have them do it for us.

The only thing that really bugs me is that whenever you start the vehicle, the climate fan comes on automatically on low speed. I have not been able to find a way to disable this. Not so bad in the warm months, but in the winter I really don't want any cold air blown on me.

They need to add more chrome on the exterior all the rubber and black plastic does not look like a $60,000 vehicle .. I love my 2009 x5 but I left BMW last week for a Mercedes gl iknow can't compare fairly being the Mercedes is 18,000 more but it looks more classy really wanted a new x5 but after looking at other trucks just could not see buying such a plain suv again ... Hope they make the next model like a 7 series !! A little chrome goes a long way

They fixed it on the LCI models.

-Cannot use google or connect to internet with my 07/10 production LCI X5
-BMW still hasn't solved the HPFP or LPFP problem with the N54, and now the N55, going to dealership this week for replacement and reprogramming
-Lack of Aftermarket or OEM N55 Performance Tunes (BMW releases the power kit for the N55 335, but nothing for the N55 X5 models, not fair).

Other than the above, I love my X, although I dislike the fact that I could get a '12 X5 50i equipped with the same options, for the same price now...

quality of the interior. I have the x5m and for a 90k plus car its not what you;d expect. The rovers interiors blows it away. I love everythign else about the car.

The thing I really dislike about the interior is the dashboard material. In the range rovers I've been in, the dashboards are all leather wrapped which brings it up a huge notch in my books. I've yet to see a nappa leather wrapped option'd dashboard on the X5. I wonder how much it helps the interior feel.

Also the non-sport gray headliner sucks.

Driver's side door handle from inside creaks too much. Does not feel of high quality.

Squeaky driver seat... Particularly annoying

Unsightly wires seen in the gap between driver seat and centre console.

Snatchy throttle at low speeds.. Seems to stay in 1st gear too long (8speed)

Creaking noise coming from rear tailgate when turning up driveways or slopes... Makes one feel as if there is too much flex on the chassis when under load.

No comfort ride option - standard setting a little too firm for daily drive. As somewhat of a luxury/family car, it tends not driven hard into the corners... Well not often anyway... . Previous car was a 2010 cayenne s which was nice as a daily drive with 3 ride settings, but it's interior is inferior to the x5. 2011 cayennes have updated interior which competes...

- Water seems to collect in the seals of passenger's side rear door: everytime it's opened up after it rains, a pool of water splashes down onto the running boards.
- No seatbelt height adjustment (I don't think it's on my e90 3 Series either) - BMW assumes humans are all one size fits all category in this dept.
- E70 X5 Sport seats don't have adjustable lumbars like in the e90 sport seats (not the inflatable pillows but the ability to adjust the wings attached to the seat backs)
- (at least for pre-lci) horrible rear view camera - pixelated/grainy, terrible at night, and just slow at activating and switching off
- Running boards stain easily and are hard to clean off
- Third Row is a joke
