UPDATE!!!!!
Updating this bc the motor is not seized or I have gotten the motor unseized but never the less it’s free. I was always trying to turn the motor over with just a breaker bar and I may have not had enough leverage from the very beginning OR A few months ago I took out bank 1’s spark plugs and sprayed some pb blaster penetrating liquid in the spark plug holes and it maybe got something loose? I don’t think that’s the case bc I didn’t have to use much force once I had the cheater bar on top of the breaker bar. So the engine maybe was never seized or it got unseized, regardless I wanted to know what you guys would recommend for the “next step”. I was thinking to drain the oil and see if there is anything in it then try and crank it to see if it does. |

Anyone have any experience with a motor getting stuck and then unstuck? I cranked the car over yesterday after I changed the oil with no plugs in it and it cranked over fine which is something it would not do before.
What the likelihood of me putting the plugs and coils back in it and this thing firing up? |

Going to put plugs and coils back in today and see what happens. I’m not getting my hopes up but I’ll report back. Any feedback would be appreciated! Thanks!

Woah the car was sitting there for a couple of months " seized" and then it recovered? Haha amazing. Sorry I'm not of any help but just happy that you managed to make some progress on this.

Again, that’s what makes me lean towards the fact it was never seized. Although, when I tried to start the car when it was “seized” it wouldn’t even crank With a brand new battery and starter so still confused as to why that would have happened. It is cranking now though, have a video of it but don’t know how to post videos on here. Going to try and fire her up today with new plugs and a charged battery as it was dead. |

So some more strange news-Car turns over fine with spark plugs out both by hand and by using ignition. Put plugs back in to try and start the car and the same click thump noise and no crank. Tried to turn the motor by hand with plugs in, wouldn’t budge, took bank 1 plugs out tried again wouldn’t budge. Took bank 2 plugs out as well and motor turned over fine by hand. Anyone know what’s going on?
I was doing some research on the valvetronic motor these n55’s have that control the valves, could that be it? Idk what to do at this point. |

My ‘11 X5 35i N55 has been bulletproof for the past six years until only a couple of weeks ago, when the valvetronic motor went out. $1500 to replace the valvetronic motor and valve cover gaskets.
