Any aftermarket racks compatible with X5M low profile rails?

Just curious... I'd like a cross bar with some overhang beyond the rails to maximize mounting space and honestly think the OEM setup is just plain ugly... has anyone found any good options for the low profile roof rails?

Have you tried looking at the ROLA roof rails?

I've tried, but their fit guide doesn't really cover the low profile rails on the X5M, and as far as I can see, they don't actually indicate any compatibility even with the raised rails on the other X5 models, though I seem to recall that we have members who are using them.

I think the Rola REX series mounts LOOK like they may work, but I'm hoping someone else has figured this out already.

Thule should have them. The rapid podium footpack 460R is for our flush mount rails and attaches to raised aeroblade crossbars. The website lists The aeroblade ARB47 as fitting our cars but if you want more overhang then you can get a longer version like the 53 or 60. I have the ARB 47 with the older rail type footpack on my wife's '08 E70 and it has plenty of overhang. I'll post a picture when I get a chance.

The specific kit for the flushmount rails is the Kit4003 which includes the mounting adapter specifically for flush mount rails which goes into the footpack 460R which then attaches to the crossbars. Here is the link for the installation guide download to show how it works:

[URL=https://cdn1.static-tgdp.com/assetloader.axd?pimid=4003999&id=481561&brand=Thul e&market=US[/URL]

Here are some pictures of my wife's roof racks. These would be the same crossbars but different footpacks for mounting on the raised rails. These pictures give you an idea of how the crossbars will be raised and how long they are.

The aeroblade are more aerodynamic than most crossbars but still reduce mpg. I installed and was happy there was no whistling like I've experienced with other bars, but the truck went from 27mpg average to 24mpg average highway.

We know about Thule, but man those are expensive, probably what $500+?

I was hoping for Rola pricing!

I have the low profile rails and went with the Thule aeroblade edges. They work very well and are nice quality.

Same here! I know it's an expensive car but $500 just to get crossbars just feels silly.

It still looks like Thule is the best option though. If I hunt best price on every piece I can get it down under $400 for the podium, fit kit, and bars. Probably just going to have to bite the bullet at some point.

I think I'm going to wind up going the AeroBlade solution but using the rapid podiums rather than the EDGE system. I'd rather have longer bars since I usually mount a full size cargo box and like to have space along side it for bikes or snowboards.

Awe, I thought I was smart lol. I didn't want to pay the price for Thule either...but had to do a road trip while moving and carry a bunch of stuff so bit the bullet and bought on amazon for around $400 with prime 2 day shipping. That's with different feet though.
