Part list/kit to replace rear brake consumables?

The "Hashmobile 3.0" is complaining about the rear brake pads being minimum thickness. I know that rotors and pads have to be replaced at the same time with BMW's of virtually all types. (I do love how the message only references the pads. Nice.)

I'm not actually doing the labor (mostly because it's cold in DC and I'm a big subtropical wimp when it comes to that), but I want to provide the complete parts for rotor and pad changeout for the shop, if I can get them at a discount.

Anybody got a parts list they use for this service? Or maybe there's a lower-cost service kit from one of the Bimmer tuning houses (or a friggin NAPA or something)? I'm not nine ways of keen on a $1000 brake service for the rears alone.

Mine is an '11 35i, produced 02/11. Magic seven of the VIN are L742694.

Thanks, all!

Mark

Wow, no answers in a year.

I am getting close to doing my own rear brakes on my 2012 50i and I have been searching for info on this job, particularly if ppl typically replace anything other than pads/rotors, and sensors.
I have priced out the major stuff (rotors, set screws, pads, sensors) but am trying to determine if anything else is needed before I go ripping in there.

Like: parking brake shoes & springs? pad retaining clips?

And is the Wurth anti-squeal spray recommended? Does anyone regret not using it (or similar)?

I just came up with two new questions:
-I read there is some sort of adjuster that screws out as the pads wear, that needs to be reset?
-What about the automatic parking brake mechanism, how is that involved?

Well on that last one I just found this link, which helps.
http://blog.bavauto.com/17160/bmw-di...ergency-brake/
Looking at this it appears the auto parking brake uses the caliper itself and not separate shoes...

Will update this is I find more / better info.

Centric rotors
Centric brake pad sensor, only one needed up front and one in rear.
Brake pads of choice. I also bought centric.

All in I think front and year was under $400 in parts. It's been a while. Anyone that buys from an online bmw specialty shop is often getting ripped off by a large margin. Brakes are a high margin business.

It takes me around 30-45min per axle to do the job. No special tools needed.

Rotors do NOT have to be replaced with the pads. I usually replace them every other pad replacement. A proper bedding of the pads, of scuffing of the old rotor is all you need to do.

Recently did a full brake overhaul on my x5d and I've been very happy with the results. I can confirm the brembos I got were definitely OEM replacements as they had the same stamping as the original rotors.

Brembo Zinc Plated Rotors
Akebono Rear Pads
Textar ePad Front Pads

Looks nice. Is that just a cleaned up caliper, or did you paint it?

What does the zinc plating do, just corrosion resistance?

And to Mitch808 - agreed. But not sure how you got all 4 corners for under $400, even for Centric brand.

So is the video I linked to above accurate for the parking brake?

Why not? the sensors about $25 each, pads were under $30 for each pair. Rotors were about $45 each. After reading what some people pay for the service is insane.

I'm having trouble sourcing Centrics for all the parts I need, especially at the price mentioned above.
Need some input on the other Q's I posted above, re: retaining clips, grease for the bolts the caliper slides on, anti-squeal?

I think I see the issue, Mitch is talking about the 35i X5 and I see that those parts are not as pricey as the ones listed for my 50i.
At AutoAnything the best prices I see for Rear Centric rotors, pads, and a sensor is $225. Just doing the rears now.

After reading on another forum where more experiences are posted, I decided to skip the rotors, and do pads (& sensor) only this time around. I will do rotors at the next pad change.
$57 for Posi Quiet (Centric) pads & sensor at AutoAnything.com

SUPER Excellent Youtube video for Rear Brake pad replacement for X5 with e-parking brake.
"Be a clownfish..."?? Watch and understand.
https://youtu.be/Ljq4ATPorXM

** EDIT **
After finding out the below (next post) I edited above to remove "e70" because I think this video might be for the next gen model. The video notes don't specify what year X5, but it looks different than my e70 calipers.

Aaaaannnnndddd, my brakes are different than in the video! I do have the electronic Parking brake, however I have NO electric motors on the back of my calipers. There had to be some half-way version where the e-brake still activates shoes in a drum inside the hub. Suprisingly little info out there on this setup and the variants.
Oh well, one less step for me to do. Got the pads changed on one side, going to wrap up the other side this morning. Hopefully no need to reset the e-brake service light either.
