EGR recall - X5 35d

I recently had my 2011 X5 35d in for service on a recall item, the EGR. After picking it up from the dealer it was noticeably different - in a good way ("did they give me an X5M??"). Power was unlocked like never before....and it is also consuming more fuel. Avg mpg has dropped from a very consistent 23.4 to 19.9. I can't say I'm complaining, only having fun with my "new" 36k mile X5. Just curious, has anyone else experienced this after the recall service is performed and if not, any ideas on what may be causing it? I want to make sure it never goes back....

I have the D but it's a 2012 so no recall. But a friend of mine with a 2009 D went through this recall and told me the same thing, "that it pulls like never before". Wondering if I should do just the soft update then install my flash on top to double the power.
