Airbag Issue - Do Not Sell Notice?
Hi All,
I'm getting ready to trade my e70 in. I heard something very interesting at the dealer. Apparently, a lot of e70s have a bad airbag - and other brands as well. So BMW is not allowed to sell the cars. My dealership has a huge lot with about 40 cars sitting on it that they can't do anything with. Has anyone heard anything about this!? Regards,

Yup, got told the same thing. I was told by an Audi dealership that they will take my car in as trade at a value reflecting a value 6 months from date of trade....after originally telling me there is a stop sell notice on it and they couldn't take it.

I was told same thing by my dealer no fix to this "problem" although he said no instances of real failures. Just another Takata hangover. Not a good time to trade these cars in

Seems really weird there hasn't been more on this.
Doesn't it basically mean many of us are driving around with a somewhat unsafe car? BMW said I'm obviously allowed to sell my car outright, but I almost feel bad doing that knowing it has this problem..

Trading dealers are coming up with all kinds of deceptive reasoning why your car is worth less. Therefor: 1. don't trade 2. sell the car yourself. It's not hard to convince a buyer that your car is no less safe to drive then any of the other 34 million cars out there that are subject to the Takata recall.

You have to understand on the trade side of the deal, they're incentivized to an extent to piss all over the value of your trade. I would try to get some cash to buy the car in question and sell the x5 privately. Generally it's always been a better financial outcome do this way anyways. If prospective buyer questions airbags, ask him to find one car that doesn't use Takata bags. I feel safer in my BMW than a Honda which actually has documented cases of failure/death. BMWNA is just being careful.
