How to change Steering Wheel BMW badge?

I have a new X5M and the steering wheel badge was scratched when I took delivery but I didn't notice until later, anyway, I bought a new one that matches the carbon leather style dash trim, but I tried plying the old badge off the horn cover and noticed its on there good. I don't want to damage anything. Does anyone have experience with this? The badge I bought on ebay is supposed to work with my model, but before I go any further, if anyone has any suggestions or experience with this, I would really love to hear from you!

Thanks -
-Rob

Correct. If you try and remove the OEM one you run the risk of blowing up the air bag and making this the most expensive roundel in history.

I replaced mine too with a Carbon Black emblem and just stuck it over existing one.

So you don't think there is any way to just remove the old one and insert the new one? I've tried and it seems tricky but it wants to come off. I don't want to stick the new one on top of the old one, it sticks out too much.

Easy. Just put a hair dryer to it for 1-2 minutes, the glue starts to soften up and when it does, just lift it up with a toothpick.

I learned today the only way to replace the roundel is to replace the airbag, as mentioned above. The roundel is part of the airbag. I just stuck the one I bought on eBay over the original horn cover, looks fantastic. I was worried it wouldn't, but it does. - This one matches the carbon leather, even though it was cheap ebay junk, it looks good.
